Okay, I am in a new hotel for a few days. I just checked in and have tried to log in over a dozen times. I have not been able to stay in for over 5 minutes. To me, it looks like I am still in, but I can't type or see typing. And to others, it looks like I have crashed. I then have to log out and back in. And I don't get a crash logger or anything. I guess it could be the connection in the hotel, but everything else is loading super fast, including other games. Any clue what it might be? Thanks

Are you on a wireless connection? If so that could be your problem.
Also, lots of people have been crashing a lot lately. Before you log in, check your preferences and make sure you set your settings to the lowest possible setting to optimise your performance. Hope this helps. |

No, it's wired. And I tried reinstalling. I guess it's a connection issue. I just can't understand why SL is the only thing effected.

Not sure of your operating system, but if you go to a DOS prompt, and run:
tracert www.secondlife.com This should list out all the routes that it takes to get to the Second Life servers. It should also give you a ping time (3 of them) per hop that you can average to figure out the interconnections between you and Second Life. If you get any that look like: 1 * * * ftl.router.my.something.whatever.could.be.here.com With the star's in them, either one of them or multiple, then that means your loosing packets. Also if there are ping times higher than like 100ms or 200ms then thats not good either. Upwards of 900ms is close to 1 second per hop to get to their servers. Just something to keep in your back pocket. _____________________

If your "crash" is actually a disconnect, check any internet security software or firewall software you have. Most of these programs will block Second Life in 1.6 (even if 1.5 was already excluded) because we changed the program's filename.

Not sure if a linden can give us this info, but would love to know the IP of the second life server, it would be better to traceroute that than the website. I am unsure if they have it on a different network than the webserver is on or not. But if we had that IP or domain name we could traceroute directly to that box.
Just an idea. _____________________

You should at least get the first like 2 or 3 before it starts timing out (that would be between you and your ISP). If you dont, then perhaps your ISP or your Firewall is blocking things (which could also be your culprit).
At that point, I would copy and paste what you see in the output of a tracert and describe your problem and e-mail it to both your ISP and to Linden Labs (although all they can do is to verify its your ISP). But perhaps they can do a reverse traceroute back to your computer IP address and figure out whats going on with an internet provider between Linden Labs and your ISP. Either way, no one should ever copy and paste this information to the forum, it would give away your current IP address (although there are plenty of other ways to get this). You could copy and paste it here but make sure that the first entry (thats your connection) is obfuscated so people cannot see your IP address. ![]() _____________________

I notice that from work here, the trace dies at InterNAP, I will test when I get home, but it might be that we cant traceroute into their network cause their firewall, so its not bad that it ends there. Just before that, if you get stars and it ending, then you have problems.
Perhaps a Linden can advise. Attached is the trace I had recieved from http://visualroute.visualware.com/ .. Just wanted to add this as more information. ![]() Attached is a log file from that website above in case anyone wants to see what one looks like. _____________________
