Ok, here's my solution to the !quit spam. First off, I want to clarify that NO CopyBots or bots of any sort that are able to connect to Second Life right now will respond to a !quit message from a random user or object. Sending !quit IMs to random people does absolutely nothing at all, and the people buying those scripts are being sold snake oil. Now, on to the response: http://www.highenergychemistry.com/secondlife/downloads/imresponder-1.0.zip (You will need the .NET 2.0 framework or a recent version of mono installed) This is a small libsecondlife bot (with a GUI in case you are afraid of the console) that logs in, and will accept teleport offers so you can bring it where you want it. Any time it receives a !quit IM from an object, it will IM the owner with a message explaining that the bot is replying to a message from an object they own, and why they should consider not IMing every random person that walks by. In this message it provides some information to the owner so they are able to track down which object of theirs is sending out the unwanted messages. Note: This bot will only respond to IMs that are sent to it, it does not initiate any conversations of it's own and is in full compliance with the terms of service. Additional note: Use an alt account to login the IM Responder, if you try to use your main account in IM Responder while you are already logged in you will be logged out of SL. You do understand that this will probably frighten and anger the people who use the !quit spam even more.

The message attempts to be as helpful as it can. An example: Hi! I was sitting in the sim Hooper at <183,42,26> when an object of yours named Copyright defender sent me this instant message: !quit. Not only is this message useless for stopping any bots from running (such as myself), it is likely annoying real people who visit your land or live nearby. You will receive one of these messages every time an object of yours sends the !quit message to me, I hope you can see how annoying automated IMs can be.Also, forgot to mention the source code is available at: http://code.google.com/p/libsecondlife/source

"three lefts make a right!" -LW
I would think the "Solution" would be the "Lindens" notifing all users that !quit dont work and spamming !quit is not helping

From: Lightwave Valkyrie wont this Bot be considerd spamming (as well) and aganst the TOS? This bot definitely does not spam, as it only replies to messages that are sent to it (and only !quit messages at that).

It would seem to me like education is the best way to fight this.
Dear SL Community: Ever since you made your "!quit" bots, any people illegally using the CopyBot have removed that line of code from the source, rendering your !quitBots as useless spammers lagging down sims and annoying people. Please stop.

You know the hints that show up while we're logging into sl? Why can't one be put there concerning the copybot security spamming??? Tell everyone these things are useless so they will stop! I think someone has surrounded my shop with the dang things. I'm getting so annoyed I'm ready to sell my land and quit.
