Does the Windows client "record video" function work or not?

I've seen several people complain about this, including two just today, and I want to get a proper answer.

1. Does the Windows record video function work or not? I can't get it to work at all myself, you can select a directory but it doesn't save anything, and lots of other people can't either. It won't be my PC incidentally, it's perfectly powerful enough, and I can't think of anything else I've misconfigured.

2. If it doesn't, have there been any Linden statements about fixing it?

N.B. The Mac version can save video fine.

it 'works' for me, but it's an odd green/purple combo. i guess a codec problem.
