CPU: Not supported

When I do " Help / About Second Life" it says "CPU: Not supported (3200Mhz)".

The CPU is an Intel Pentium 4 640, running at 3200 Mhz.

Does this have any implications for SL?

Why is this?

Is there a way to get SL to recognize the CPU?

The "Not supported" part is most likely the output of a CPU-info utility linked into SL (which wasn't updated for some time). It should have no effect on performance

I've seen this with several similar CPUs to yours, SuezanneC. I think Intel has processor drivers you can download, and those may work. I know some much newer processors that are recognized, so it's worth a spin. :)

I have the same problem with mine. I have a Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz with HyperThreading, its a 64 bit processor with 2 Logical Processors. Being 64 bit could be the problem.

I have a 2 Dual Core Xeon box (Dell Percision 670) sitting here now, gave my Athlon 64 setup to my son, he needs the SLI more then me and I needed SCSI & Xeons for the video editing I am doing. But I don't get that message, do you have the latest intel chipset drivers isntalled?

Getting SL to say it recognizes the processor isn't going to get to take advantage of any special features of the processor though, is it?

Probably not till there is a 64-bit version.

It will make it use things like SSE which there is a rendering option to enable that under the debug menu. But no it will not use 64 Bit unless you have a 64 Bit OS and a 64 Bit CPU. I know the windows version that they have is 32Bit, not sure on the Mac one as OS X is 64 Bit already and they have had 64 Bit CPUs for a while.

When I started SL recently, up came a sign saying that my cpu was probably insufficient to work on SL, but it gave them option to try it anyway <g>.

My CPU: Athlon X2/4600 :-)

I think the problem lies in that dual core processors are something SL was not prepared to see. :-)

Do you have problems running SL without setting affinity? For example, inworld, if you have DEBUG up and press Ctrl-Shift-9, do you see the lines behave oddly? And does it display your CPU right in About Second Life? :)
