Alright...I'll try to explain this in the best way I can and see if anyone knows a solution to my problem. A few days ago I was in E City and decided to relog cuz my baseball shirt (officially a jacket) wasn't coming off of my avie. Textures can be stubborn, so instead of waiting I logged out. When I tried to log back in I got killed @ Contacting User Server like the original 1.6 did at times. So I killed it, restarted my computer and came back in. When I came back into the game it seems as if my shirt (that wouldn't come off) got tattooed to my tattoo undershirt (L&F/Gecko). My skin is a plain dark tan MunchFlower skin (Nomine) with no tattoos officially on it. When I take off the tattoo undershirt, the baseball shirt comes off and it's just my regular skin. When I change my skin to a different one, the shirt comes off and shows my bare skin with the tattoo like it should. When I put on a normal shirt, the shirt that seemed to tattoo its way onto me goes away. I've contacted Live Help and they had me clear my cache, but that didn't work. I've tried buying the tattoos and skin over again, but it's still exactly the same way. The only way I'm able to see my bare skin with the tattoo undershirt on is by making a regular shirt with the clear texture. This is how I'm dealing with it now, but I was wondering if anybody else had some insight into how to fix it. I have a feeling that there may be something bugged my default cache sent from LL in the Precaching phase that has messed the texture. Right now I'm going to clear my cache (for the 3rd time) and reinstall to see if that will help me out, but I have a feeling that it's somewhere in that default precache that's causing the problem.

Thanks to anyone who responds:

Alright from what I've gathered from others is that it's something called an "alpha bug". Also that I need to get a mod/copy/no trans version of the tattoo undershirt in order to fix the problem up. So I've sent offlines to the creator and hopefully she'll get her little Belgian butt on here to hook me up. :-)

I'm having great trouble following this - I'm also not exactly sure what the nationality of the creator has to do with anything....

It's a joke...sorry you didn't get it. And like I said it's hard to explain the problem, but I informed whoever read it that I found it was an alpha channel bug. It's a lot easier to show in-game than it is to explain in words. Thank you for your seemingly pointless response.

I think I know what you're saying :) Every now and then a texture will get scrambled and the scrambled version propogates to the asset server. This used to happen a lot with skirts and skins. It's less common with other clothing. If the scrambled item is modifiable you can usually fix it by going into appearance mode and changing the tint of the itme (or in the case of a skin, changing the pigment slider by 1) and then saving it. You can tell if this is the bug you're experiencing if when you go into appearance mode the item looks correct in the thumbnail images. If that doesn't fix it you can try having the creator send you a new copy, but that often doesn't work. In that case they need to give you a modifiable version so you can change it slightly and resave it. That causes SL to re-bake the texture.

Yeah that's exactly my problem. My only problem now is that my tattoo maker is addicted to WoW, and probably won't be on any time soon. And my skin maker told me it'd take too much effort to use a skin she can edit, pull it up in the edit thing, move it 1 number over on the slider, make sure it's no copy/no mod, and send it back to me. She instead offered to find the tattoos and recreate them to put on her skin, which in my mind would take 20 times the effort to do what I explained. I was so thrown by the fact that the simple 1 slider number couldn't be done in 30 seconds max that I'm done with it. Looks like I'm just out to find another skin or hope that somehow one of these updates fixes it, but I highly doubt the latter. Thanks for the insight anyway Chip.

I had thought we worked this out a little more happily....

Skins, as even Mr. Midnight will attest, don't run on SL sliders. I can't just adjust them that way, ( god I wish I could ) They're essentially full body tattoos, and changing the skintone requires changing each template in photoshop, which I offered to do. If it was a simple as sliders I would've had it in a second for you.

I'm still not sure how adjusting the skintone was going to fix the tattoo, but that's really not relevant. I just wanted to say that I offered and I tried to help.

Munch, changing the pigment slider by one, even with skins like yours or mine where it has no effect, still causes your client to rebake the texture which then replaces the scrambled one on the asset server, even though it makes no visible difference to the pigment. The problem is that the scrambled texture is a unique asset of that single skin owner and if you send them a new skin, chances are they'll still keep getting the scrambled one because it's associated uniquely to that one person. What you have to do is send the person a modifiable version so that they can change the slider and resave it thus flushing the scrambled texture associated with them off the asset server. If you're not comfortable with that (which I'm not particularly comfortable with either due to the possibility of texture theft) I can't blame you in the least. Fortunately it doesn't happen nearly as often now as it used to.

One thing that you can try (not sure if this works or not but it's a thought) is to upload the texture they're having a problem with again from your hard drive with a different name and assemble a new skin for them with that fresh upload. You'd want to start with a brand new skin, not just replacing that one texture on one you've already assembled. Give that new skin a different name than the original and send them that. This hasn't happened to me with one of my customers in a few months so I haven't had an opportunity to test if that works or not.
