Why do Some Threads Refuse to Update their Status from UnRead to Read?

I`ve been noticing lately that seemingly random selected threads in the Forums will lock their status at New/UnRead and refuse to toggle to Old/Read when I`ve read the whole thread. There is no known pattern to which threads will stick, but once a thread has stuck, it STAYS stuck. I would presume that the flag unsticks when the last message gets old enough that even UnRead threads are flaged as "not new", but I have not had an opportunity to verify this yet.

What could be causing this? [Feel free to move this to Technical Issues for discussion, once you`ve answered.]

I searched through some of the vBulletin documentation but wasn't able to find what you described, I'll move this over to Technical Issues in case someone else recognizes the problem.

It`s Happening Again.

When the bug hits, old threads --that already existed, but have not been viewed in the current session-- and new threads --well, threads that did not previously exist-- are typicaly the ones to fall victem. Especially new threads.

Current threads --threads that I have already had change from Read to UnRead and back to Read-- continue to work properly. Usually.

I thought it might be cookie-related, as I had turned off most cookies a few minutes before the problem appeared, but it kept happening when I re-enabled cookies, and I`ve had cookies enabled all day today, and it is happening again now. It started happening again sometime about 30 to 90 minutes ago, I think.

It does.

However, I still do not know if it stays unstuck.

I`m going to try rebooting my computer, to see if that helps.

It Helps, But Does It Cure?

It seems to, although any mis-tagged threads retain their mis-tagging across reboots. Next time it happens, I`ll try restarting just Firefox.
