Same here
![]() Second Life is a very resource-hungry bit of software. It puts a lot of stress on your computer. It may be that something broke inside the box - maybe your graphics card is overheating? What exactly is happening with your computer? Do you get funky stuff on your screen when it crashes? Like multicolor patterns or a grid of dots? If so, then it's the graphics card. You may need a new one, or at least a new fan. Computer fans break all the time... they get clogged with dust and hair and stuff. I have like 4 pets so I have to keep cleaning my fans all the time ![]() _____________________

I suppose the big question is 'what happens when you try?'
Is there an error message? If so, what? Does nothing happen when you click on the icon? Do you get as far as pressing the connect button? |

The big question is ALWAYS "what happens when you try." That's the sentence I use most often every day. Since I generally have to repeat it, it even wins out over "how can I help you", "what seems to be the problem", and "how on earth did I manage to spill my drink on my laptop AGAIN?!?"
A little late-night tech humor. |

It looks like there may be something wrong with your hard drive.
You should backup all of your important data ASAP, your disk may have less than a month left. Try uninstalling SL and reinstalling it - your SL files may have errors in them, so a clean version may work. If it doesnt then its probably the hard disk dying. _____________________

Hrm, not sure unless I could get the *exact* wording of the error message.
Have you completely uninstalled the program and reinstalled it? |

Sounds like something in your computer is overheating. Either that, or your RAM is going bad. Does your computer have anything installed which displays its temperature?

vanessa hun, they're trying to help you, but you're not listening. people are telling you that it sounds like it has nothing to do with SL, but that it's most likely your hard drive. i've had hard drives go on me, and it sucks. just try checking into what they're recommending. the faster you get it figured out, the faster you can get back on SL.

My computer started doing spontanious reboots and we did a scan of the ram (from a program we found online) and found that there were a couple bad spots on one of the memory modules. Replaced them and haven't had a reboot since. I was amazed and yay to my partner for finding my problem and fixing it

One other thing to try is to remove and reseat the CPU or have someone who is tech savy doing it. I received a mainboard with a P4 proc (yay!) and it would reboot too on it's own at random intervals. turns out that the CPU socket wasn't completely latched, just a hair off. When the proc and the socket heated up enough, some of the pin contacts were broken causing the reboot. I reseated the CPU and it has been working for over a week now. Also, while you have the CPU out and the fan off, add more Thermal Grease to it as the stock Intel Thermal Compound has a tendancy to vanish....
