Since upgrading to the latest version of SL my computer shows the following message on start up - "Found New Hardware - Creative Audigy Processoe (WDM)" and is asking for the file "a 3d.dll" I have not installed any new hardware. In the Microsoft help article it says that this can be caused after installing new software. I have only installed SL 1.18.4(3).
Could this be the problem?

windows has a habit of randomly trashing files, realistically a well used system can only go about a year before doing weird crap
the only way to fix it is to reinstall the drivers (or windows which is my preference) the sl client itself isnt to blame, but it could be related since it was new info written on the disk /index/registry ect |

Time to uninstall and then re-install your Soundblaster software. Once done, goto www.microsoft.com/direct-x and re-install Direct-X 9.0c runtime. That should cover your bases.
