My notebook is only equipped with Intel's integrated gpu on the motherboard. I am aware that this is not supported, but have tried anyway. I am able to enter SL, and sometimes it actually runs pretty well. However, now and then I go through phases where all in-world textures flash and change colour and text becomes unreadable. An error message informs me that one of the Iad5.... dll files has stopped responding.
I am not expecting it to be bug free, as I am just glad when it works at all given that my gpu is not supported. However, I would be grateful if someone could advise me if there is a way to make it slightly more likely to run better and improve my chances just a tad. Any help would certainly be a bonus.

Honestly, i dont think there is any other way unless your notebook provider will allow you to send it to them to upgrade the gpu :\

You might want to see if there are newer video drivers for your computer. Check your computer's manufacturer first, and then check Intel's support site.

Conan-
I sometimes use a similar integrated graphics laptop, about 2 years old. Have you checked that the maximum amount of memory that the graphics system can use is checked in Preferences?
How much memory is that?
How much memory do you have total?
As Wildefire mentioned, updated graphics drivers may be available that will help. Check around on the computer maker's website as well as on Intel's.
I have run SL on anothe machine, a 6 year old Toshiba laptop with 32K of graphics memory. It's not as fun as my new machine, but whoooo hoooo, it still worked!
Good luck!

You may get it to work better by turning down the acceleration settings in DirectX. A lower setting doesn't do so many fancy tricks and so is more compatible with problematic hardware. Though this may cause the system to run even slower than it already does.
To turn down acceleration, you'll need to through a loooooong series of steps: 1. Start menu 2. Control Panels 3. Open Displays 4. At top click on Settings tab 5. At bottom click on Advanced button 6. At top click on Troubleshoot tab 7. Move the Accelerations slider one step to the left 8. Click OK to close Advanced settings window 9. Click OK to close Display control panel 10. Reboot, and try SL again
If you still have problems try sliding it to the left another step. Note that at some point on the far left it will actually disable ALL 3D acceleration, and it may not be possible to open SL anymore.
Also if it says in the Troubleshooting window that the video card can do things like Write Combining, you might want to try turning that off to see if it helps at all.
To return to normal drag the slider all the way to the right, turn back on stuff like write combining, and reboot.
