I am running a nice PC but I never really got into graphics very heavy. Never played any games or anything so I never really needed a new graphics card. I only really got into scripting and web development so i am curious if it is even possible to run SL on the factory video card?

Gonna have to post your computer's specifications for anyone to even hope to answer that. Quick answer though is if you have integrated graphics or a laptop, probably not.

start / run / dxdiag (enter)

should show you what your pc is buildt on, a decent pc for some is not good for some, hard to guess tho.

mostly what we're after is motherboard, ram, cpu, current ram, agp/pci-e ,
