I just downloaded the updated First Look viewer, and logged in. Something odd happened though. I got stuck at 10, 10, 10 in the sim I was in, (Polkadot) and everything was invisible. Myself, other avs, terrain, objects etc. There was just nothing there.
So I relogged. And now I can't seem to login. The progress bar moves normally until it reaches 'Connecting to Region' then it simply stops. I tried waiting an extraordinarily long time, but nothing. I tried repeatedly attempting to login. No success. I tried logging into every region I could think of. Occasionally, I get 'Cannot login. Region has begun logout process' but that seems to happen at random, and most of the time it just crashes.
When it crashes, 'Not Responding' appears in the bar at the top. I have checked my connection, and all aspects of it seem to be running normally and perfectly. I can access websites, download stuff and watch streaming video.
So naturally, I assumed it was the fault of the First Look viewer. But the exact same thing now happens with the normal viewer too. I tried reinstalling the FL viewer, but to no avail. I get prompted to send a crash report for the previous time, and the crash reports seem to go through just fine
Also tried restarting my Pc a few times, resetting my connection. etc. Everything seems to be in perfect working order aside friom the fact that I can't login to SL.
My specs, in case they're useful: Windows XP Service Pack 2 3 GB of DDR 400 Ram AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 2.0GHz ATI Radeon X1800XT 256mb GPU
Can anyone help?
WarKirby Magojiro
PS. You never realise how addicted you are, until you can't login. /me needs SL : (
EDIt: In case it helps also, I've been using the updated normal viewer all throughout yesterday, and today, Having been using the (previous) FL viewer before that. No problems at all.
EDIT: I uninstalled all versions of SL, cleared everything and then reinstalled the ordinary client. Still no luck. For now, I'm going to assume it's due to database load, or my ISP messing up, and just tryto login again every hour or so. But if anyone knows of the cause and/or a possible solution, it would be greatly appreciated. If it's not working by tomorrow, I'll assume something's really wrong.

I have this same problem on the ordinary client, not 'first look'. Was happening yesterday, so i uninstalled/reinstalled, then had the same difficulties for the next hour.. Eventually managed to get in, and then logged in fine this morning again. After a few hours, however, i had a bad crashola and have been unable to log in since then. I'm experiencing all of the same stuff as war. All specs on pc are above those recommended, and i've had no probs for the past 4 months. Pah. I can't get back in ... somebody help meh.. pleeeeaaaasssssee.

/111/38/161157/1.htmlFirst look require udp/tcp connection, you must add that to any firewall you use or you will get issues.

And thats why i typed > First look require ..... <
did you open that url at all?
Try this
delete sl app folder delete sl install folder (C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\SecondLife) (C:\Program Files\SecondLife)
reinstall
delete everything in firewall/trojan blocker that has secondlife , let it detect it again
Doing just a uninstalled/reinstalled , does not clear out all the files laying around that SL use.
When i got the new client i had excactly the same as you guys had, lots of crashing when logging in,why i just deleted everything of SL, even in firewall, let it detect it again, didnt crash once after, tho why use old client ? its so...sloooow, compared to First look.

Still not working. : (
01-19-2007 14:32
Ok Deleted both those folders, and everything else SL related
Re downloaded the new first look, and installed that.
Exact same problem. Every time. I noticed in the blog there was a bug with having bump mapping and cloth enabled that causes a login crash, but I do not have this enabled, so that's not the culprit.
I also removed SL from zonealarms program control, and allowed it all the permissions it asked for when prompted. still no luck.
Any other ideas?

Yay!

It worked.
I got logged in. I went and disconnected my modem, then plugged it in again. And it worked!
Hopefully, it was just a minor connection hiccup.
/me sincerely hopes it doesn't happen again.

Login Failing again
01-21-2007 08:48
Just bloody great. The same problem is reocurring. Yesterday, I kept crashing every now and then, and the crashed on login repeatedly for up to 10 mins at a time before I could get back in.
But today, I just can't get in at all. >: (
Exactly the same crash as before. And as before, my internet is working perfectly in all other aspects.
Not good, considering I just paid the first month's rent on my new land, and now can't get there to build my castle.
I'm going to email support, and hope to get some answer. In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions, please post.

Hi, You might want to check for some updated graphics card drivers, and also before you log in check in prefs that the graphics card memory is set correctly Milo From: WarKirby Magojiro Just bloody great. No dice
01-21-2007 11:55
It warms my heart to see a linden reply here. I did not expect more than residents.
Turns out I was behind in my graphics driver. While I'm sure the updated driver will benefit me somehow, it has had absolubtly no effect on THIS problem : (
EDIt: I set the graphics card memory too. No effect
I have noticed something though. When it freezes, if I wait for a good while. About 15 mins, it DOES eventually log me in. However, every time so far (5 times), no matter what region(5 different regions too) , I always end up invisible, stuck at 10, 10, 10 , unable to teleport, unable to see the map, friends list empty, whole sim is invisible too. All I can see are the sky textures, the flat base of the sim, and the surface of endless water. Mini map fails to render, and chat fails to show. As does text in help request. And other avs appear.
I also tried disabling my firewall, just in case. But seeing as it has never impeded SL before, there was no real reason why this would help, and indeed, it did not.
Any more suggestions, Milo? Or anyone out there. My castle is sitting half built, and full of plywood prims. : (

Hi,
I've just logged in as you ok, the place you were located was extremely laggy, so i teleported your av to a quiet sim, and removed some attachments from your HUD.
If it continues to happen you should check out your firewall, reboot your router/modem, check the firewall guides in the knowledgebase, and see if there is any other blocking software installed on your machine.
Milo.

You...logged in as me? o_0 I didn't know lindens could do that. It should definately help though. That laggy sim is my old home, lag being one of several reasons why I'm moving to a castle in the sky Just tried, and I still can't log in. -_- The fact that you, too are in the UK proves that the problem is either with me, or my ISP. I'm very determined to get this fixed and I'll format my hard drive and get a new ISP if necessary. Let's hope it doesn;t come to either of those though. If you don't mind answering, Milo. What ISP do you use, and also what security software/firewall/antivirus etc. I'm going to start indiscrimately wiping any unnecessary software of that sort right now. One way or another, I will be back in SL very soon. WarKirby

Hi, Try logging into Perry/128/128 If that fails please email your secondlife.log file to milo@lindenlab.com you can find that using this guide http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=318On this machine i have mcafee internet security suite 2007, on my other machines they use either the default windows firewall or the mac firewall, all combined through my routers firewall. No special setup on any of those.

Odd
01-21-2007 13:47
Something Wierd Just happened.
I attempted to log into perry. The first time, it seemed to be successful I got a prompt to play streaming music. But iit was a fleeting moment of joy. The client crashed to desktop literally 2 seconds later, before I even had time to click a button.
Second time I trtied, it gave me the error, "Region is has begun the logout process"
Third time, and all subsequent, back to crashing as normal. *sigh*
I'll have that log file sent within the next 10 minutes
