Just loaded build 53, now I cant even log in before the crash. At least in 52, I had upwards of 5 minutes to say hello... Gets to precaching, goes about halfway, and crashes.

1.2 GHz processor with a gig of RAM and 64MB video card. It ran 1.6 without a hitch, and if 1.7 requires that much more horsepower, there is a problem.

Hmm, yeah that is interesting. Have you tried perhaps updating your video drivers to their newest version? I once his a hitch and I updated my drivers and all was fine.

Sorry to hear that... for me (on a Mac) the difference is striking as I just logged in to 53 (as compared to 52): textures and trees are actually loading, rather than staying as ghostly transparent figures.

Amen on it being worst. However you need to swap out your CPU to at least a 2.4GHz, up your vid memory to 128 and I think things will be fine

Try an AMD 64 with 1 Gig of ram, 256mb video ram and a Geforce 6600 card.
I don't think it's my machine. Scratch that.. I KNOW it's not my machine as I was running fine with the earlier version - 1.6.
I have lowered my draw distance to 64 meters and am still, after 5 full minutes, waiting for the prim directly in front of me, not 2 meters away, to load texture wise.
It IS the build.

If I may speak so freely. . . This is @!*(ing ridiculous! Why the !@*# would v1.7.0 need that much more power?! Back on the last v1.6, my little 2.4GHz Intel Pentium 4 with an nVidia GeForce FX 5600LE(running at half power due to my motherboard only being able to handle 4x cards, not 8x cards) was running Second Life just fine. Now? I'm getting massive -- and I do mean massive -- system hangs. WinAMP sometimes stops playing between songs until Second Life wakes up. This has never happened before. Even when I went to the most populated areas in all of the world.(Ya know. The ones that lock you up and turn you Phantom for no reason other than there's so much going on all at once, you get boned.)
Look. I like Second Life. The concepts for the upgrades fot v1.7.0 sound great. Truly, they do. But if the game is going to take what seems to be roughly double the overall power that it used to just because of that, you're going to lose a lot of players. People like me who don't feel like waiting for things to decongest. My advice? My personal advice? Shut everything down from public access for a week to let the system, servers, and everything sort itself out. Half-way through, let the Premiums in. At the end of the week, let the free-goers in. Maybe that would balance everything out. But what do I know. . . I'm no Server Operator.

i use a p4 3 gig hyperthreading , 1 gig internal , ati 9800 pro 256 and a normal connection of 800 kb/s have the graphs on minimum , all the performance options off. even disabled tree grass clouds and surface rendering . but still am waiting till infinity for those textures to load . am almost 30 minutes sitting in the exaxt same spot , but still those texture wont show up. so its safe to say it isnt a hardware problem . gues we have to be patient ....again . its becoming a kind of ritual with major patches , am just hoping it wont take months this time.
