Hi all,
I am a newb at SL but an experienced computer user. As such, I have a very good graphics card in my laptop, based upon Nvidia Quadro Go1400. The laptop also has 2 gigs of RAM and a 3.6 ghz Intel processor.
However, I have found, probably as many of you have, that I must tone down my setting in SL to be able to move without undue lag. Is there a graphics card out there that will allow you to run SL at "optimum" or high settings without undue lag ? Or does everyone have this problem ? I really don't think my cpu or memory is the problem at all, and I have a 5 Mbps connection. Thanks in advance for your information.

Not unless you can afford a pair of PCI Express cards in SLI mode, they're the only cards that I know of that get you more than 20 frames per second in a populated sim. LL really needs to work on their clientside rendering engine. :/

I have a SLI MB ( one GT 6600 gc)at this moment I have a 26M DSL line. Which will be upgraded by nov to a 100m down and 50 up. But the key is unless you have the speed to power board(s) via the line its worthless to have a top end card(s) GC.

i think ull all be noticing a difference after the updates, its not so much down to the card u own atm in sl really, although u couldnt expect good fps on a low end card obviously, the code seriously held back any graphics card no matter how powerfull, the changes and revamps should improve it greatly.

I've been on the 1.7 preview grid, there's no difference in client side performance even though server side performance has been greatly increased. I just think that now that LL has given the servers their big performance upgrade the clients should be the next thing to focus on. I mean come on, Doom3 is alot more graphics intensive than SL and Doom3 runs better on my machine.
