The sim I am in has been getting slower and slower over the last week or so. Right now there are close to 700 active scripts, sim cpu is >0.5 (never saw that before) and the Time(ms) for run tasks runs around 10.0 with only 3 main agents (avatars) in the sim. Basically it is laggier than the old da Penthouse on a Saturday night - and only two people in the sim.
OK here is the question:
What can I do shorr of moving out?
And some related questions:
Will the Lindens help identify the lag source? What sort scripts and active objects are likely to cause the problem? What has worked to fix your laggy sim?
Any thoughts, suggestions, comments gratefully accepted.

What can I do short of moving out? Wait for the release of 1.7 that purported severely limits the propotion of sim compute time allocated to scripts.
Will the Lindens help identify the lag source? I've never seen them do so, indeed it is not clear that they even have the instrumentation to do so.
What sort scripts and active objects are likely to cause the problem? Scripts that listen to everything said on channel 0 (the regular chat channel) are notorious resource suckers as are devices that contain multiple scripts to circumvent intentional delays in LSL (e.g. 20 scripts in one object madly sending e-mail)
What has worked to fix your laggy sim? In general nothing, as even if you could identify the offending scipts, convincing the owner that it is bad for the everyone in the sim is typically impossible.
