Just closed down all the programs i could and noticed that internet data was still flooding into my PC.. I couldn't find anything doing this.. so I opened zone alarm and found the active programs.. then i blocked services.exe's access to the internet and voila, traffic stopped!
No ill effect seen so far.
Those of you who have connections what seem worse than what they should be might want to use zone alarm to block services.exe access to the internet. Might help a bit.. no idea... but boy it killed the random heavy traffic I was getting.

Ouch, Pirate. Hmmm, what is that thing ... From: someone Description: services.exe is a part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System and manages the operation of starting and stopping services. This process also deals with the automatic starting of services during the comptuers boot-up and the stopping of servicse during shut-down. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Author: Microsoft Corp. Ah. And my guess is that you are running no network services, right? So it had no business hogging the line. It's a general truth that the more parts of Windoze you can disable or terminate, the better and more stable it is. The best results are of course achieved by a total reformat and installing Linux in its place.

I'm no expert on the matter, but I suspect that you should leave services.exe running, then choose Start > Run > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and locate and disable the specific services that you don't want your computer to run. There are some web sites that will give advice on which services are safe to stop and which aren't. Many should be left running or your computer will get sick and be very unhappy with you.

Ahh, it's still running, I just told ZoneAlarm to not permit it to access the internet. It might have made SL load areas a bit quicker too PC
