Wish I had an answer... It kinda works on my box.. I have an Radeon7600pro running the 8.351.0.0 drivers dated 3/2/2007... Hmm I picked those up last weekend.. and I see a new version now. Anyway.. prior to using those drivers.. It wouldn't even hit the load screen. After the drivers.. I could get in.. but I get really odd artifacts which makes SL unplayable..
Add my inability to search inventory without killing my NIC layer (under XP too) and I have been SL'less for a month now... Yunno.. Thanks SL for helping with my addiction.. =) What card do you have.. U got the most recent drivers?? I hear Nvidia is cool.. here is a link for the ATI stuff.. http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html Curious to see what how it turns out for ya.. Collin |

Many thanks Rampaging Don't be frightened off after just one post in here Rampaging. Although SL isn't supported on Vista, a lot of people have successfully got it working on that platform, and this forum is certainly a good place to establish whether your kit is up to the task. It depends mostly on the graphics card you're using really and whether anybody (manufacturer or third-party) has made openGL drivers available for Vista. So, do you have any idea what graphics card is installed in your system? =) |

True, SL may not be OFFICIALLY compatible with Vista, but I was able to run the FirstLook Viewer on my Vista Dell Laptop for a month after I found some kind person's modification to the program. And I bought this laptop so that I could play SL in the first place, so it's pretty damn new. But since the latest update, I have had absolutely no luck getting back into SL and there haven't been any updates to the FirstLook Viewer (which, as we know, is supposed to be the testing ground to get to Vista compatibility).
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 and had to download an OpenGL driver for it to work the first time around. I recently went back and downloaded the update for the driver to see if it would help with the new version of SL, but still nothing. I crash before it gets to the login screen. I have also tried changing the properties on the program to file to run as XP compatible, as well as other OS systems it allows me to try, but it didn't work for me. It's worth a shot tho, especially since all systems are slightly different. Believe me, when I finally get back into SL, after taking care of urgent business, I will definately be sharing how I did it! Us poor Vista people have to stick together and help eachother out! |
