Are they still working on the grid or is it me?

You'd think a cable modem, nVidia 7300GS 256MB Athlon64X etc. would be sufficient ...!

I take it this is a technical issue, maybe you should elaborate.

*moves to technical issues*

When you say Athlon64X, do you mean an Athlon64 X2? If it is an X2, that mean you have a DUal-core processor. There's a stick up about about Dual-cores, but to summarize, SL gets a little confused when it sees 2 CPUs, so peopel have seen their performance increase greatly by forcing SL to only use one of the two cores.

Quick way to do this:

Right-click on your task bar and choose Task Manager.

Click on the Processes Tab at the top

Look for SecondLife.exe in the left-hand column

Right-click it and choose Set Affinity...

Uncheck one of your CPUs and hit OK, then close the Task Manager.

You will have to do this every time you start SecondLife. THough the sticky I mentioned before may have links to programs that can do all that for you.

Wow, that makes sense. Second Life being easily the most unfortunately bloated resource beast I've ever seen in my life, you can see why it wouldn't be a priority to accomodate dual proc or dual core machines.

Quad cores are going to start taking the market in the next year. I assume Second Life will scream and run away clutching its skirts when it sees one of those, and you'll have to break your processor in half to make the software run.

I misstated my CPU ... it's not a dual core ... :) Was thinking about my new laptop!

The info will be helpful if I upgrade.

Thanks, again.
