I have had exactly zero crashes for the past weeks (registered on the 12th of December), and would keep SL running for hours at times (over 14 hours on one occasion). But today I've had 4 crashes in a row, 3 in the 1.5.11 and the last one just ten minutes after updating to 1.5.12. I've been doing exactly the same things as ever (building outfits in a sandbox, running around in DarkWood and dancing at Le Cadre), nothing that could somehow induce crashes.
I have a PowerBook G4 (GeForce4 Mx) and MacOS 10.3.7, and all these crashes are puzzling and frustrating me. Did anyone else experience more crashes than ever lately ?

same video card-same problem . . .?

I have the same video card as you and an equally fast computer (though a Windows machine), and I was equally happy running around the new world of SL with few if any crashes. Yours is the first post that I have seen that mentions the GeForce 4 MX (mine a 420). I wonder if it is the video card now . . . and it happened like yours - all of the sudden, the durnd thing crashes like every ten minutes . . .or less.

My powerbook (1.5GHz, 64Mb Radeon 9700) ran SL acceptably up until the database problems at the end of december. Since then, I've managed to log on with the laptop exactly once, out of probably a hundred attempts. It usually crashes during precaching. Sometimes it'll get a little further.

From: Catherine Omega Does uninstalling and reinstalling SL fix it? Maybe I'm stupid, but the SL client for mac seems to just be a single executable. It certainly didn't come with an uninstaller. So, if you consider 'uninstalling' dragging that icon to the trash, yes. It doesn't make any difference, however.

Unistalling and reinstalling no fix

Nope. It didn't do the trick.
Here's what I have done so far . . .
I am crashing every ten min. or less in SL and it doesn't seem to matter what I am doing or how many people are around me in my area (Louise). I have done the following things to try to alleviate this: I updated my NVIDIA driver, I updated my VIA driver, I ran a DSL Speedtest and packet loss test - all was excellent, >300kbps and <.5% loss. I downgraded everything visual to minimums, or near minimums, Emailed "support", I tested compatibility and it was excellent, I emptied my cache and temp folders as directed in the FAQ, all to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled.
The crash is to the desktop, and the crash reporter comes up. Once it was completely to a black screen with CPU still running (disturbing, I will say). What I must say too, is that the client was working beautifully (by that I mean an occasional crash), but it has become so tiresome, that I wonder if it is worth it (of course, it is, but what hairpulling frustrations)!
My 'puter: Athlon DDR Pro Epox 8k3a m/b w/ AMD xp-1800 1.53 GHZ CPU GeForce 4 MX-420 64 MB Kingston nic 256 MB DDR pc 2700 400watt power supply 60 GB HD ATA 133 7200 rpm Windows XP
What's more puzzling is that last night I played with zero crashes for about four hours. Tonight, I go online and begin playing and within five minutes it crashed. Got in again, and it crashes within 5 minutes. I have done EVERYTHING I can think of. In desperation, I also did a disk cleanup / defrag, emailed support, waited for support, did not get support, priced new video cards . . .
