Grid Restart and Sim FPS ?

After this last grid restart I noticed that my SIM FPS has more than doubled. Is this normal for after a restart or is it due to the fact I am now on a different server. The numbers on my server went from three hundreds to the four hundreds. I have read numerous threads saying that the newer servers are much faster than the older ones and I have read many threads (mostly by lindens) saying that they are not. I even got an email response that the "number" of my server does not make a difference in the Sim performance. I do not understand how this could be true when the FPS in the sim has almost tripled after being assigned to a higher numbered server.

Are there any other reasons for this jump in Sim FPS ? Could it just be due to a Grid restart and the Asset servers being restarted? Or is it really due to the performance of the individual servers being varied?

I am not trying to start any rumors or innuendo, or accusing anyone of lying. I am just honestly curious as to the way these things work. I know there have been no other changes to the sim as it is my private island - and there have been no addiditons or deletions from the island since last night.

Any insight into this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

No. No. No. And no.

The increase is JUST due to the new server. Expect it to dive the next time you crash.

Conventional wisdom suggests that a sim reboot *can* clear/reset some naughty tasks, which can have a positive impact on a sim, but it has also been established that the server running the sim will often change when a sim reboots. Hardware differences between the servers make some more efficient and/or faster at running the SL sim, which can affect how in-world load impacts Sim FPS.

I believe the Lindens have stated that the difference in clock speed between sims is below some percentage; it might have been 35%. While this is technically true, differences between memory bandwidth may be as high as 300%, not to mention memory latency.

Plots of some sims' sim FPS and time dilation are available on my sim stats site.

Thanks for the replies so far - Right after I posted this they announced the Town Hall on technical issues. I have posted a similar question there also so I hope people don't think I am repeating myself. I am hoping that Linden Labs will address this issue at the town hall this week.

If anyone thinks my question could be more clearly stated or explained please feel free to let me know or add your own question to the town hall thread.

Again - in my experience in my first sim and now on my island my beliefs are that the server age does affect performance. Sometimes the FPS's vary greatly when they change the servers. I am hoping they address this concern and let us know the facts around this issue.
