I must have missed this, but...

Why are there no avatar pictures showing up in the forums under our names?

The pictures are there but you need to enable them if you're not seeing them. Click the User CP link and check your settings.

We don't all see things the same way IRL, and in computer-controlled experiences like this Forum and SL itself, it's even more true!
