I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this... I bought a new pc recently, unfortunately with Vista - yuck! Yesterday I tried to update sound, network and graphics card drivers to fix some issues. After that, lower part of my sl avatar appear as either completely white or with a black skin underneath clothing (depending on which avatar I use). I haven't checked yet if I see other people's avatars this way as well. I've tried the usual tricks - changing clothing/skins, rebaking, gone into appearance and dragged sliders, deleted cache, tried with a different sl viewer, relogging, adjust NVidia settings. Nothing helps. Any ideas...? Driver in question is NVidia 7.15.11.7779 run on a NVidia GeForce 9500 GS, Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with latest patches. Should I downgrade to an older driver, and if so, what driver do you recommend? -- EDIT: A rollback of graphics driver helped with sl. I read that other people also have problems with the driver mentioned above. I guess newest driver isn't neccesary the best one

Should I downgrade to an older driver, and if so, what driver do you recommend? -- EDIT: A rollback of graphics driver helped with sl. I read that other people also have problems with the driver mentioned above. I guess newest driver isn't neccesary the best one My experience with drivers is that, if you are not having problems or you do not need a new feature that a particular driver has, then don't upgrade it. And, no the newest (or latest) driver is not necessarily the best one for a particular computer with it's unique hardware configurations. Your rollback only "fixed" part of your issues. That would indicate that that newest one is not the one for your computer......though that is not absolutely true either. If you did install the newest without uninstalling the older driver you may have some left over trash from the old driver roaming around in your registry. Despite what some will tell you, it's alway best to uninstall before installing new drivers (not just video drivers). But the down side is you cannot "rollback" if you do that.......but in your case what good was that rollback anyway? What prompted you to update your driver in the first place? If it was some problem then I understand........if not and you did not uninstall first then your problem could be your original driver was fine. But the installation over the existing driver might have corrupted both drivers. It gets confusing I know. What I would do is first find the original driver (either on nVidea's website or your setup disk that came with your card or computer). Uninstall every video driver listed in your add/remove. Install that orginal driver and check to see if your problem is still there. If it is then go to nVidea and download the newest (it's usually best....but, as I said, it's not always). Uninstall the original driver and install the newest.....check SL again. Works......fine. Doesn't work......go back to nVidea again and try the next most recent......repeat until you find one that works. Stick with that driver until there is a real reason to update.........don't update just because it's newer, never. Now, if you've never uninstalled a driver I need to tell you that for the uninstall to take effect Windows will need to be restarted. When you system boots back up you will get a "found new hardware" dialog box telling you that Windows needs to find a better driver for you graphics card. Close the box.....do not let Windows even search for a driver. Just go to where you saved the downloaded driver and install it from there. Your monitor will display a really low resolution picture until you install the driver again......that's normal.

Ive had that same thing happen to me on OSX.... the few times its happened though Ive TPed to a new spot, before it finished loading closed SL, deleted my cache, then started SL again and it worked ok... at least for a few days til it happened again... havent seen it in a week or more.
but it also seemed to happen more often with certain pieces of clothing than with other things i wear... Like there was one pair of socks i have, that when i stuck them on my lower half turned solid black (to me and others, so it wasn't graphics drivers)... changed to different socks, it looked ok.. back to the previous pair of socks, and it all turned black again. After a few Tps and cache clears, the black lower body half socks then started coming up pink and white like they were supposed to be... for everyone looking... I think its a server side bug related to the old "Missing Image" bug where people had "clothes" on that always said "Missing Image" on them really big.... related to, but not the same as rebake doesn't really fix it.

I have the same problem, only worse. I can't wear anything I normally wear. Even if I wear a shirt with short sleeves, my upper body will go black or white, same with the bottom half if I wear shorts.
It started when I upgraded to the Nvidia 177.84 drivers, and thought the latest drivers of 178.13 would fix it, but it didn't. Also tried reinstalling and deleted cache, but nothing works.
I also upgraded the drivers because the 178.13 drivers enabled the physics processor on my Geforce 8800 card, and also adds CUDA support, which can increase performance in games, and increase processor performance as CUDA allows the GPU to perform CPU intensive tasks.
I've not tried rolling back drivers, and I don't really want to because the 178.13 drivers are the best performing drivers Nvidia have released in a long time.

I'm having a similar problem I have a few favorite outfits, but recently I can't wear them anymore. What happens is, for example, I have a pair of big gothy boots and when I wear them my whole lower half, from belly button down to feet turns black. I tried to play with the texture in the edit my avatar screen, but the texture and everything seems fine there, even though the slider windows show all black on my lower half and don't change at all as I slide them. I tried going to the store and buying the outfit again but it did the exact same thing. I even had my friend buy the outfit and it worked fine for her, no black. Other clothes are having texture issues too, like pants bleeding onto my shoes and such. Sometimes I put on a layer, like socks for example, and for some reason other parts of the outfit set, like the pants, will also show on my AV even though I'm not wearing those at the moment. I also have vista/nvidia and it happened when I had my drivers updated.
