Crash Reporter Failure

The crash reporter fails one hundred percent of the time for me. I'd like LL to get the crash reports, it might help them prevent crashing. I assume that's what they have crash reporter for. I sent in a couple of log files manually and the response said not to send them in. The response appeared to intepret sending in log files as a request for help rather than an attempt to send them information they could use to improve their product's stability. Given the low retention rate SL has it seems to me they might be highly motivated to find out about crashes that their crash reporter doesn't tell them about because it also crashes, but apparently they don't see things that way.

My question is, does anyone have any suggestions of how to get the crash reporter to work properly, or should I just give up on using this aspect of SL?

Does the crash reporter work for everyone else?

I have mine set to ask before sending. It does produce the dialog box and accepts a click. Then it never finishes and exits.

I wonder if new users install SL and have it crash, the crash reporter fails, the new user gives up - especially if the do have payment info on file and thus can't access the forums for help - and LL never knows about the crashing.

I Love SL--really !!!

In the 7 or 8 months I've been in SL, the Crash Reporter has NEVER worked for me. (and its had a lot of opportunities :-)
Since I use a mac, I just figgered fixing the 'crash reporter' was even lower priority than fixing the viewer...and the server caching, and teleporting, and the ****, etc.etc. :mad:

But one thing I HAVE noticed since (was it version 1.12?) there's a change in the files in the Application Support/SecondLife/~username folder. The mac crash reporter keeps trying to send back to LL a config file that isn't even used anymore. :eek:

2 weeks ago there was even a thread on this...someone crashed, looked in their system log for 'why'.
They saw "Settings.ini" was missing, as reported by the 'Crash Reporter'. They then scurried around trying to find the file--thinking that SL Viewer crashed 'cuz it was 'missing.'
Instead, the Crash Reporter crashed 'cause it was trying to send it back to LL.

It seems they forgot to update the Crash Reporter when they updated SL viewer. :rolleyes:

:::: Settings.ini is now Settings.xml ::::
