Hi guys...I thought i would post this and see what floats to the surface...
I own Pinky's nightclub in "monti", since moving in...and beginning my quest of building my club, i have learnt a little bit about active scripts and how harmful they can be to LAG.
Before we go on... I am still nowhere near to understanding the depths of what causes lag...but from my understanding... active scripts (shown by repeating "cones" in the "show updates" section of the debug menu)... that are constantly repeating, can be a major cause of lag to a sim.
originally when I started building the club, I had two dancefloors each with 12 colour changing scripts repeating every .5 of a second... I had a bunch of DNA lighting that was repeating at a fairly constant rate, security tools checking and refreshing, water fountains as well as my nasty flashing shoes. Since learning of "the nastyness of the cones" I have gone through my club and removed every single item that refreshes at any rate. I DO currently have a radio in there that flashes a red cone every 2 seconds or so...but it will go soon too.
Incidently...i made a new dancefloor that is not at all active... I now have lights that dont change (grrrrrr) and have spent weeks trying to make it more "safe".
Happy as anything i pulled up my statics bar to see the improvement to the sim and found i had improved it by about 100FPS in average. but... it still hovers around 150-300 fps...so off i went on a seek and destroy mission.
Next door had a fish tank..with about 8 fish that was repeating maddly... a stream of constant cones.. I asked him if he was aware of the problems...and he removed the fish. I did not expect him too... and was pleasantly surprised at this outcome. Searching the sim it didnt take long to find a fairly major cause. There is a second club up the road... with a dance floor that must refresh about 50-100 objects per second. sometimes blue cones swarming from the ground, sometimes red ones....so heres my question...
What are my rights as a land owner in this sim?
Everybody i have spoken to in this sim has found other ways to deal with the appearance of their places... withought these harmful scripts... but the owner of this club will not even reply to my messages. I can never catch him online... and it is getting rather frustrating.
I am opening my club for business next weekend...and hoping for a large turnout...but when you consider that 4 people in this sim creates massive lag...how am i ever going to cope with a 10 or 20 turn out? (optimistic i know...lol)
What can i do to try and get this problem rectified? Is there ANYTHING i CAN do?
i would appreciate some ideas or help on this matter...as i feel a little distressed about it.
Also, if i have it all wrong...and all these cones are not my major issue... i am happy to listen and rethink my plans.
