The result is that the firewall software pops up a dialog box asking if it’s ok.
I press yes, but the updater seems to have given up in those few seconds.
The result is that the updater program is ”not responding” and I terminate it.
If I reboot the PC or have the firewall disabled before the updater starts it all works fine.
But the problem is that if I forget to reboot the PC after the updater has crashed I get a "Error opening file for writing" "C:\Program files\SecondLife\App_settings\static_data.db2"
At this point, I have to either abort or ignore and the result is the same either way in that I have to uninstall and manually re-download it and then reinstall and then re-enter passwords, settings, click on pop-ups saying that I can edit boxes.
.1. Why does the "down loader" fail with the firewall on?
.2. Why does to "down loader" lock the db before downloading the update?
.3.What happens if I install without un-installing the earlier version?
Background info.
Norton personal firewall 2000
Windows XP pro SP2
Ethernet Nat firewall, cable modem.
Interestingly it works fine on my other computers using a "Allow all programs to access secondlife.com on all ports in either direction" firewall rule.
Edit: This time I clicked on "ignore" and SL seems to be working fine.
I wonder what the static_data.db2 file holds and if it's important for this update.
Edit again: It just crashed while I was editing an object.
