Okay, I didn't have this problem until the new revisions of 1.8.2 (rev 8 and 9 specifically). I'm running an older PC (1.2 Ghz with 512M of Ram) and have been hobbling along alright. But there's a problem these last revisions have been giving me. Specifically, Packet Loss and Lag. Before, I only got this problem in VERY busy areas while things were still loading in. Now, I have massive lag problems in game (with frequently a 5 to up to 30 second delay from what I input on my PC to what happens in SL. Mind you, this was NOT a problem until these last 2 patches. According to the meters on the upper right, my bandwidth usage is roughly average for me, only spiking when I reach a new area or a veyr busy area. But now the packet loss meter, which would only rarely spike, is spiking repeatedly and often (Almost whenever I try to do ANYTHING).
This is a problem. What do I need to do to minimize this, or eliminate it? (And no, I do NOT have the money for a new PC! If I did, would have bought one ages ago!!)

I am seeing this ever since the crash this morning. Everyone at the club I was at tonight was seeing massive lag too. I hope LL is looking into it!

Ugh. That sounds awful. Provided you already did all the basics like uninstalled SL completely and reinstalled... I'm uncertain what's at the root of something like this, but one quick thing you can do to narrow it down is inworld... hit CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D for DEBUG menu (appears next to HELP on your screen). Then, select FAST TIMERS from it. When things lag really badly, the colored bars will move slowly. See if both of you have the same colored bars in the high numbers, and post screenshots if you can. If you get more info, you'll also want to send those screenshots to bugs@secondlife.com so the bug hunters can have a look. That's how we'll know more! Hope it gets better tho. And I notice both of you, Tasha and Jennifer, are new SL Forums posters, so welcome!

Ok I gave it a try.
A few things...
First, SL has never lagged except in a couple of Sims where there were a LOT of people, like at Slingo, but the lag was not bad at all.
Now, anywhere I go, things can lag for like 30 seconds to a minute for no apparent reason. Also, when I first log on or TP somewhere, textures take forever to show up now.
The computer is brand new, an Athlon 3500 with 512 MB of RAM, and an ASUS NVidia Geforce 6600 video card with 256 MB RAM. It is a PCI Express card, not an AGP card. It is clean of spyware or viruses or anything like that. I mainly use it for games and to listen to music.
I will attempt to attach a screenshot of the little bars.
Umm, well I won't be attaching the screenshot, LOL:
