Hello, I hope someone is able to point me in the right direction here. Ever since the last update I am unable to move my av properly. I press the forward key and 10 seconds later I move, this happens in every direction and also when flying.
Strange thing is scenery is not slow to load and everything is fine except for this, I am also able to move better while on my own land (which isnt a large plot).
Everything was fine prior to the latest patch and I am wondering is anyone else experiencing this problem?
thanks, Zero

thanks, Zero In the very top right of your screen is a tiny box with two bars in it... packet loss, and bandwidth... If you mouseover the first, it should tell you iff you're losing packets... which might be the cause...

Hi, thanks for your reply I checket it out and I appear to have 0 packet loss ( I took the reading when still and experiencing control problems. The bandwidth goes into the red at times, just for a moment or two. It does make SL totally unplayable as I can't get to where I want to go, I just fly on passed!

Hit Alt+1 to bring up the statistics box. What's your frame rate and ping time? It sounds like one or both of those are much higher than they should be.

Remove ALL of your attachments. You may have a "jet pack" script on something that is giving you a boost when you try to move.

From: Zero Therian I press the forward key and 10 seconds later I move, this happens in every direction and also when flying. *waves hand in front of Zero's face. You don't need faster servers. There is no packet loss. Carry on.

From: Jack Digeridoo *waves hand in front of Zero's face. Hand? hand? I see no hand? Oh yes I do, nope gone again, I'll see it again when I've done another tour of the sim....help! No attachments at all (strange but true).... I tried to fly around a bit ago, the problems appear when my ping goes suddenly to around 1500-2000 then sometimes drops but has gone all the way up to 10000! This makes me very very indeed. But thanks again for your help all.

From: Zero Therian Physics FPS: mid 40's Sim FPS: mid 40's to mid 60's Physics FPS should be 45. If it's less, you'll feel like you're moving around in molasses. There's a third FPS number, client FPS, that you want to look at as well. Click on the "basic" bar of the stats display to bring it up. If it's not at least 8fps, it'll be causing an increased ping time, and causing some of the problems you're experiencing. From: someone Ping sim/user: 180 msec upto 10000 msec Those are a bit high. Are you using a streaming music program or downloading stuff while playing SecondLife? What sort of broadband connection do you have?

I checked the User FPS and it varies from 40 up to 70 but has not gone below 40 even when I experience my movement problems. Yep Physics FPS is constant at 45.
I have a Cable 750k Broadband connection.
my system is as follows:
AMD64 3400+ 1 gig ddr 400 GeforceFX 5900XT 128mb 260 gig s-ata hd
I've tried reinstalling SL clearing the SL cache and defragmenting my HD, I have over 220 gig left on hd. I've also tried clearing all temp files etc and checked all drivers are up-to-date.
The only thing i can think of that is different that may make a differene (maybe) is the Windows XP home I use is an SP2 version.
If it's any help I have an EQ2 account with which I play with many settings on high or max and have no problems, so appears to be only with SL, which is sad as i love the game.
thanks again for your help
Forgot to add, I dont have any streaming software running or other connections to the internet while this was happening.

Odd. You've got a fast, low-latency connection, client FPS is far too high to be causing ping problems, and you aren't downloading or streaming while playing SL.
I'd suggest turning off the SP2 firewall, but that's just asking for trouble.

um he jus said up to 10000 ms ping
that would be the problem folks... 10000ms ping means you push a key and 10 seconds later SL actually hears it (and moves you)
chances are theres somethin wrong with yer dsl, or ya have somethin goin on in the background thats usin all yer bandwidth

I don't necessarily agree that the problem is with his system at all. This is a previously reported problem that a number of us have experienced - meaning aperiodic spikes to an unGodly high ping.. which then cascades into shitty response in-game.
I have personally identifed that this happens most often for me in two and only two sims - Aheran and Morris. It does happen elsewhere, but not often and not as drastically as whenit occurs in Ahern/Morris. And Ahern/Morris do not always have this symptom for me...
However, I stupidly keep forgetting to check the ident of the server at the time it occurs. So, I haven't been able to correlate it to specific servers myself.... only locations that I regularly visit.
I can't offer any solutions or hope here.. only support and commiserations.

that would be the problem folks... 10000ms ping means you push a key and 10 seconds later SL actually hears it (and moves you) He's seeing wildly-fluctuating ping times, but there's nothing obvious that would explain it. Ping times are a symptom, and the cause is unknown.
