Group-Land question (semi-technical)

Ok - I guess I'm in the wrong part of the forum - but this one seemed to be the most appropriate one... (if not - guide me pholks... :)

We have group owned land with a dancefloor and a mall.

We do have Roles for several types of group-members. Some of them with building abilities (like Officers and Shop-Owners in the Mall), some with no rights at all (regular visitors who just love our place).
But everyone in the group can build on the land, move objects and so on.

In the Land-Info, we have «build/enter objects» and «run scripts» set to «group only»...

We tried to switch everything off, but then, even Agents with explicit building perms in their roles can't build anmyore...

Maybe I don't get the concept of the roles - but if everyone in the group can build, even if his/her role doesn't allow it, what's the purpose of this role anyway? If no one in the group can build, when the «group»-option in the Land-Info is deactivated - again - what's the purpose of the role???

Please, pholks, heeeeeelp!!! it's driving me nuts!

Resolved, hopefully :).

If you turn build (and object entry) off for everyone, but turn it on for group members, then *everyone* in the group will always be able to rez, regardless of the group permissions.

If you turn build off for group as well, then only those who were specifically granted "Always allow 'Create Objects'" can rez and other group members can't.

Rather unintuitive :).

Thanks again for your help, Kitty...

Turns out - with the build option for 'group' turned off, the build-button greys out, but the members with a role that allows building, it is still possible. Right click on the ground and choose 'create' and the build-window opens... (I submitted a bug report on this one. It's really confusing...)

If you have the debug menus (otherwise, Ctrl-Alt-D or Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D) up: Client / Enable Admin Options, or Ctrl-Alt-V

That'll (among other things) enable the Build button as a work-around. The most obvious other side-effects are that you'll appear to be able to edit everything else as well (classifieds, profiles, about land, etc) which won't actually work, and if you open an IM you'll see "parent estate: 0".
