That sounds like a bad section of your hard drive. The download will write to your drive (bad or not) but when the program tries to execute the data is corrupted..try running scandisk as a simple test and redownload after.

I can't get the updater to work on my XP system.
It won't downlaod at all with norton firewall enabled.

Then when I disable it the latest update got a "something file in use" with a "Abort, Retry, cancel" . I cancled and reran SL only to see that it applyed part of the update so it no longer wants to install it.

So once again I have to uninstall SL and reinstall it. :(

Looking more closely it apears that somehow the firewall software is not geting the corect file name since it says a bunch of letters and numbers as the aplication requesting internet access.

Then after reinstalling I have to reduce the Video card Ram setting in order to get a decient frame rate.

Then there is all the "you can click x to do this" messages.

Edit: This started with the 1.10 release

Every case we've seen of this over the years is the result of something on the resident's computer. The most common causes are:

1) You've already tried to download the file, and it was corrupted. Future attempts fail because your PC thinks the file is already completed and doesn't even try to download it again.
2) Norton, McAfee, Zonealarm, or other antivirus or internet security software blocks the updater.
3) Bad temporary files on your computer prevent the installer from unpackaging itself.

If you have any antivirus or internet security software install, reconfigure it FIRST:

Then, follow these steps to clear any temporary or installer files and reinstall SL:

Hope this helps!
