Well, I've tried to deal with this problem myself.....But i just cant get it fixed.

It tells me:

From: someone
Your Video Card appears to be a GDI Generic, Which secondlife doesn't support.

Secondlife requires a video card with 32mb of memory or more, as well as multitexture support. We explicitly support nVidia GeForce 2 or better, and ATI Radeon 8500 and better.

If you own a supported card and continue to recieve this message, try updating to the latest video card drivers. Otherwise look in the secondlife support section or email technical support.

You can try to run Secondlife, but it might crash or run very slowly.

I have an ATI Radeon 9700, I just downloaded and installed the latest Catalyst 5.7 Drivers for my card and that didnt seem to help.

So, Now im asking everyone if there is a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Have you updated your motherboard drivers? You might also try an ATI driver cleaner utility that completly removes the old drivers before you upload the new ones. Uninstall SL completely and install the full upload from the downloads website. http://secondlife.com/downloads/index.php

aha!, i got that with a 6800gt , the cause was drivers from asus enchanted drivers / smartdoctor (both needed for gpu heat temp reading) fault.

So if you installed some drivers that go along with vid card, it might be those, now i run the newest nvidia driver and no temp reading, SL work fine.

(kinda blah since i dont know how warm it is -.-)

6800? Assume its hot... like frying egg hot and you'll be right. :)

I got this on my old 8500 card, so I just check the box that says do not show me this again, as the game worked fine running the 5.6 catalyst drivers.

Only thing I could find on this problem was in the SL Wiki files. Check the following link. Hopefully it will help you out.

This message comes up, typically, when you don't have either correct motherboard or video card drivers installed, as mentioned above.

You should have a disk that came with your motherboard. One of the driver sets for it should help. Also, consider using Omega drivers (www.omegadrivers.net) instead of ATI's... I've heard they're better!

Good luck. What kind of motherboard do ya have?

Depending on how long ago you got it, there may be a newer driver.

Is there not a check box in the corner that says, "please do not show this again"? I know I got this on my old 8500 and I checked that and have not seen it since..

blabla, when i got that i thought it was my psu (550watt), or heating (i hate summers), wasnt either , did a format and reinstall windows, SL worked all the way till i installed Asus smartdoc + Asus enchanted drivers (both used to monitor temp/regulate fan speed, without well 100% fan speed noisy)

Then SL worked a few times and boom slapped me with the "GDI generetic" card, no idea is you use the asus enchanted driver or not.

I would format windows and reinstall, sometimes thats faster then finding whats wrong
