hiya all.......now i may seem really "thick" here! But when it comes to computers i am but i really need help.

I have been in second life a few days now and have found that "me" is coming across looking very odd.
My skin is constantly changing colour and texture, my clothes are the same, so i can rarley see what i'm wearing! have tried to edit skin, eyes, hair, clothes etc but cant see what i am choosing as even the edit box with the eyes hair clothes selection etc is also jumping about with colours and textures all the time.

Not sure what others see as at the moment i havent a clue where i am on the world!! and havent really seen many people. lol

also everything is very jumpy and slow as in walking, moving, flying and i get second life not respondiang load's!, the scenery mostly comes up blank or grey although some does show colours etc.

i'm on broadband connection and have an e.machine 1.80 with an extra memory installed. thats all i know!

(plz dnt ask how much cos i havent a clue ...........did say i was thick with computers)

if someone could plz tell me what i should do. "in plain english plz" i'd really appreciate it!!

plz plz plz can it be explained in non technical jargon as i really havent a clue about computers!! thanks xxxxxxx

Aura,

Can you find out what graphic card your computer has and how much video memory?

Chances are you may have built-in graphics, which usually do not provide optimal performance especially with a resource hungry game like SL.

There are several settings under video preferences (within SL) you can tweak. I would set all to the lowest setting see how things go and then increase slowly, one by one to find out the optimal level for your computer.

Regarding the changing skin color, there is an option in one of the graphics preferences tabs called 'Avatar Vertex Program'. You want to make sure that option is NOT checked. One of my computers makes avatars look very freaky when that option's turned on.

You get to preferences by clicking Preferences on the Edit menu. There are, I think, three different Graphics tabs in that screen. Look at each one until you find the setting.
