Still Crashing since 1.6.3 update

Since the 1.6.3 update, i can log in and SL crashes. Just closes and my video drivers get messed up, comp freezes. (not pretty) I decided to wipe out my laptop and relaod it, needed it any way. after all that, Its still crashing! Im running an ATI 9700 video card in the laptop. and my shodows are off. Any other tweaks i can try? like openGL settings? any suggestions?

Is lighting disabled as well? What video drivers are you running? If you're just running the stock laptop drivers, or the official ATI drivers, you might consider trying the Omega drivers.

yeah, Latest video drivers. lighting.. It worked fine before the update.. just getting very very frustrating =(

What model of laptop do you have? Did the Omega drivers help? Did you uninstall the old video drivers first? Does SL just crash when you start it, or what?

there's a sort-of underground plague that has been sweeping win machines with service pack 2 and an ATI card. The crash seems to effect some programs and not others. Some people experience it while others don't. However, it has been proven to be an ATI problem. There is currently no known fix unless ATI has released new drivers within the last few days or so.

I'll let you know if anything becomes a fix.

The Omega Drivers worked!! YAY. well at least i got to play for a few hours last night without an issue =) Thanks for the advise guys.. BTW, i am running a sony vgn-a190 Vaio. not that it matters now.. Thanks again for the help!!

Glad to hear it. When you say you were able to play for a few hours, you mean before YOU had to quit, not before it crashed, right?

Yes! I was actually able to quit this time and not let it decide for me! lol ah well, back to the late nights again =)

Disabling shadows worked wonders for me.

I had crashes about every 30-90 seconds, yes that's seconds.

Now gone.
