I know this might have been addressed before (can't find anything super-relevant), one of the comps I want to log in from has the Intel 82845G on-board graphics chipset.
Whenever I try to log in I crash. Maybe I can get 5 seconds before I do.
Obviously LL knows there is a problem, because when it starts up, there's a message that the driver is not supported, (naming the Intel Extreme Graphics chipset), it then gives a link to the driver page. However, that page has nothing about the Intel 82845.
I just want to know exactly what it is that is making the client mess up. I have all my settings all the way down already, in fact I just want to IM really. If I knew what to set on the chipset that would make it work better with the SL client, I'd do it. (for instance, should Triple Buffering be on?)
If I knew that there was a better (I'm using the newest Intel Driver) driver to use with it, I'd go get it.
Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm sure this is not what you want to hear, but you really can't successfully run SL on the Intel chipset. Its not officially supported, and the whole setup is lacking a lot of the VPU features that are necessary for SL to render all that 3D-data that is streaming in.
My advice it to go out and get youself an nVidia card. I'm not saying that nVidia is that much better than ATI, however nVidia is certainly better supported by Linden Lab than ATI. You can get a GeForce 5200 for around $50 these days. While there are better cards out there if you want to spend more, I ran SL on a 5200 for a long time, and didn't have many problems.

Well, another problem is that the machine in question has no agp slot. I do have an old mx440 pci sitting around though.
Thanks for the heads up!

You can get the 5200 in PCI as well.
