I am having problems with avatars ghosting. I go places, and always, there are several av's that I can only see their attacments. I see their shoes, glasses hair pieces etc. but no bodies. At first I thought it was because of the lag at different spots, however, as of late it is starting to happen in my home sim where there is no lag, and I don't get any packetloss. Is anyone else having this problem? Anyone know of a fix? It is starting to get very annoying. BTW, reloging doesn't seem to help.

Heh. I've actually seen this too. At first, I thought it was the Invisi-Prims, but no matter what angle I looked at them at I could see other people through them.
No name appeared over their heads either.
This was in 1.5.5 though. Haven't even been near people for 1.5.6.

This has happened to me a couple times. Try flying away and back to reload the area.

I am online now and can see some hair or glasses or maybe a hat but all avatars (including my own) are invisible and it is getting quite annoying. I assumed that everyone was having this issue but obviously not... Transfering to another sim, teleporting, rebooting, relogging, all result in the same issue... Falk

When I have someones calling card, I can offer them a teleport to my location, (even though we are allready in the same location) then I can see them. very strange indeed. Yes Moleculor I noticed it in 1.5.5 as well, but it seeems to be worse in this release.

Keep ghosting on the bug TO-FIX list.

Echo, report it in Help->Report Bug, and if it's annoying you a lot, pester Live Help and ask them to ensure that it's marked on the LL bugs list.
Avatar and object ghosting is one of the more annoying bugs around, especially in Class events where it causes disruption with students relogging multiple times to overcome it.
LL is in bug-fix mode currently. Nasty high-rate bugs like this one need to be kept in their sights through regular reminders, since they don't want to tell us what's on their TO-FIX list.

Huh... do any of you have your debug menus active? I noticed you can actually turn off avatar rendering in there... I wonder if some glitch might've toggled that? Remote, I know, but I just noticed it.

Remote, I know, but I just noticed it. Nah. I ROUTINELY use disable avatar rendering, and this isn't it. Only some avatars disappear, it's completely random, and can affect one avatar, then another, then another, until you reboot.

I've been seeing the sporadic invisible-avatar bug for a few months myself. Found out from someone that changing your active group fixes it -- you can then change back, if you wish. Quite strange, but it seems to work (for me, at least).
But I've never had it where all avs, including my own, are invisible. The only times I've ever seen my own av go invisible are certain cases when I have problems with teleporting. Anyway, try the group switching trick... if that doesn't work, I have no idea.

You're sure that toggling avatar vertex program doesn't fix it? Does having the user in question go in and out of Appearance mode fix it?

I've been invisible as well as other AV's since I updated my Mac system software Midnight on Saturday.

Ghosting seems to be MUCH worse since 1.5.6, both for people and objects.
A number of people have complained they can't see one or more of a group several times - though I have to admit that hasn't happened to me.
But what DOES happen to me is that literally every single thing I ever rez or create these days is ghosting in full detail.
And when people are logging out, their avatars are staying around for hours. I had the pleasure of CrystalShard's (rather quiet) company for about 5 hours the other day, and her avie stayed right up until she really did log back in again.
Prim ghosting is not so fun - avie ghosting can be fun. Though I thought it best not to admit all the things I did to her avie while she was away.

This bug has been around since day 1. The first class I attended when I started was taught by a floating tophat and monocle. I thought it was intentional, but everyone else could see him, it turned out.
But there is a fix!
If you are near an avatar that is unintentionally invisible, change your active group.
It works, strangely enough.

So, if the UI were XML'ified, we could write something that automatically toggled group membership around every few seconds to overcome the ghosting bug .... Erk, what am I thinking??? Why should we look for bug bypasses? Is Second Life now Second Rate? Just fix the goddam bug, LL! Addendum: reporting the bug again ...

4-5 months have gone by, how's the ghosting for you now?
Such a common and annoying bug *has* been fixed by now, right?

Well, yes, it has been several months. And to tell the truth My ghosting experiences have dropped dramatically. While I still experience it, it is a very rare occasion now. Now that being said, I have several friends IW who have it worse than I did a while back. Kinda comical to watch the group name switcheroo.
