I tried to change clothes today and my avatar went all black (clothes and skin)...

when going into appearance, what is normally the view of the avi, is now black at the top with what looks like video static at the bottom.

I thought it mihgt just be me, but everyone sees me like this. Is anyone else having this problem? I eventually keep changing clothes and skins until it reappears (much much later), but am afraid to put on anything else other than what made it finally appear.

What the heck is going on... anyone with answers?

Same issue here too. I found out it was coming from the base in my shoes and the base to my hair so I changed and then rebaked and now is all gone. Must be a bug or something but is quite annoying.

This bug has been around a couple of versions. It was better for a while, but it never went away totally. It's been on the bug fix list for a long time (I reported it as a bug many moons ago when it first appeared), personally I doubt it'll get fixed anytime soon.

About the best you can do is to enable the debug menu and use the rebake command. This is only a temp fix however...the black/rainbow/test pattern/static will come back....

I'd advise you to wade through the bug reporting procedure, but it's probably pointless. As I said the problem is well known and no fix apparently forthcoming...

I am all black too. Just when I connect a second TFT monitor. Well, I send a bug report, with no answer. In the Beta I have a normal aspect, but in the Main grid, using three different PC's, XP and Ubuntu, I am black like a piece of coal. Rebake do not work. Well, I am going to to save a pile of money in clothes, or skins, in the future

Causes/fixes

*Can happen if you run multiple screens and SL isnt on the main , disable all screens and run it on single to see if that work.

*Check your driver, to old and you can get it
,actually to new doesnt work on old vid card either so that depends what you have.

*Strip your av of everything both attachment and clothing, relog, clear cache, log in,search inventory till its done fetching everything, then wear something it should change, <this one worked several times for me

*Older Ati typically fail with VBO/Avatar vertex on (havnt seen nvidia have this), disable it.

*Unsupported vid cards get blackness av's if you have one that isnt Ati/Nvidia, cant help you then , get one that is supported.
