So I've been with Second Life for over 2 years now. As my PC gets better. My game performance gets worse. On a good day I can get 3-9fps. And thats when I'm not around other people. Heres the setup. Intel Dual Celeron Processor 2.8ghz Memory is 1022MB of RAM Ati Radeon x1300 256MB card. http://ati.amd.com/products/RadeonX1300/features.htmlDirect X 9.0c I have a 6mb cable connection, it's not always at full speed. But damn...I can play WoW and Oblivion, no problem. I just don't get it.

From: Tegg Bode Not enough memeory 2Gb min But I have a friend with 512 megs and she only has slightly more problems than I with 1 gig. The minium requirements are 512. If the game requires 2 gigs...........it should be stated in the minium requirements.

Regardless of what the website says mine sucked with one gig now rocks with 2gb, and I really going for 4gb now to improve it more. I have a 2.2 Dual core Intel, Intell motherboard and GF8800, but I have used a GF6600 and GX7600 in this machine to run SL and the 7600 was fine, not much gained going to the 8800 The Website also says you need ADSL, I've run SL on diallup 56k, not very well of course.

Dual Celeron processor? Is that a typo? If not, that might be your problem right there. Upgrade your CPU to anything but a Celeron.

I agree, Celerons are for light work only.

Get a better video card. Nvidia works better than ATI in SL.

You don't need two GB. If you set the video memory in adv. graphics to 128 or 256 MB thre will be sufficient memory on a 1 GB machine (even the memory leak included). A better graphics board will of course help (a NVIDIA 7600 will give good price/fps ratio). The X1300 is a bit on the low side, limiting FPS, so the money will be better invested in a vid. board than memory (the SL memory problem will be fixed soon anyway). And a 256MB vid. board will do unless you want to upgrade memory too (there's a tricky combination of vid. mem size and SL mem requirement which will actually impair performance on a 1GB machine with a 512MB video setting). https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-364https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-733Btw, cable connection will not help that much, SL throttles net usage (if you set preferences, network to max) at 1.5MBit

you dont need 2gb i run with 1 gig on a 1.9ghz amd cpu at 40+ fps in a social setting
it could be your cpu, celerons really dont have the beef to do massive crunching and your video card being a lower end that makes a slow experiance

Yes I can also run SL fine on 512. Check and make sure you don't have antivirus on like Norton Autoprotect (which constantly runs in the background). Or other such resource intensive programs.
Also you don't want to upgrade your memory past 2gig. XP does not know how to handle memory over 2gig and your performance will really suffer (you will get MUCH slower rather than faster). Vista should be able to go over 2 gig without issues, but I still think it is overkill.

My 2L...
1 GB RAM will work but 2 GB is better. However, a better video card helps a lot. I used to have 256 MB video. But then I learned it was only 128 MB on the card and "shared" 128 MB system memory. I since upgraded to a card, as best I can tell, with 512 MB on the card. BIG improvement. Adding 1 GB RAM helped some. Gave me more space for OS and background apps w/o resorting to virtual memory.

From: Inigo Chamerberlin NOTE: The SL client doesn't seem to recognise 4Gb, not on my setup anyway Yes most applications can't see past 2GB As I said even XP can't use beyond 2GB (and if you do install more it will just slow the system down or not use it at all), and if the OS can't most applications certainly won't even try. -DB

I had 1 gig of memory and just upgraded to 2.5 gigs and I see no difference in my SL running any better than with 1 gig and I also know folks that run 512 only and have no issues.
I would also guess your video card but I am no expert, just went through samethings with my video card on old comp so just guessing you got same issues. Good Luck!

-DB Depends what your motherboard allows, mine only allows 2.5 gig of memory so even if I put 3 gigs in it will still only show 2.5 gigs To check how much memory your comp shows as being able to be used , right click on my computer and then properties and then general and then you should see how much memory your PC sees.

If you are using a Celeron based motherboard, its doubtful it has the power pipelines/memory controllers etc to give you the best experience.. as I have said many times before, LL need to stop kidding people/users as to what is really the minimum requirements to use this game over and above an OS. What they state is truly a bare minimum but not a 'useable' minimum. Since the introduction of the new rendering pipelines (thank you LL I love you), it has put increased stress on other parts of the system which weren't there before.
