Whenever I use Second Life, my computer randomly crashes and resets itself from time to time. No other program I use does this. It's only Second Life. It doesn't do it every session, but when it does happen, I noticed that I am running Second Life. Is there a reason why Second Life is causing my computer to crash?

One that note it may be you driver and may need to upgrade that one for your card ... that kinda sounds like a driver problem right there

I've seen these symptoms happen from (a) heat, and (b) an inadequate power-supply.

SL can tickle both issues because it tends to run a lot of the hardware (particularly the GPU and bus-drivers) much harder than many other applications due to dynamic content. Your video card runs hotter. Everything on the PCI and CPU bus pull more power. More heat, more current.

If pulling the side off and aiming a fan inside causes your random crashes to stop, you've got a heat problem. Another case fan might be in order, and check that your existing fans are spinning well.

If it doesn't, I'd try a new PSU, decent brand with a decent wattage rating. They're not an expensive item, and pushing a PSU near the edge for current delivery will certainly cause random crashes, particularly in video-heavy apps.

I see this with my ATI 9800 pro AIW. It is now in an old dusty computer I use to watch TV on and is rarely used for SL. My 6600 and 6800 run flawlessly, YMMV.

And I've seen it on an ice cool system with a ridiculously OTT power supply.

i.e., mine.

I sympathise, Kwipper.

Defective memory maybe?

Grab a copy of memtest86+ burn to cdr, reboot and wander off for a few days...
