“Returned” Items Not Appearing In Inventory

I am looking for some help on retrieving items which were “returned” to my alt, Vaill Vella, by a landowner, Precision Control, however they have not appeared in my Inventory yet. The steps taken by the land owner were:

About Land
Objects tab
Clicked “Return” on “Owned by Others”

It was a quite a few items, mainly furniture, so I am anxious to receive guidance on how to have these items returned/appear in my inventory…

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Kind Regards,
Vaill

I would log into SL on your alt, goto preferences and clear cache, then relog. Open your inventory, and start a search for an item and give it time to count/load up all of your inventory. It may also be helpful to do this in an empty region.

You will possibly need to look for coalesced items, where things that got grouped together, will appear as one even though they are multiple objects. For example, you may see one sofa, and there will really be 10 other items attached to it, and to recover them you'll need to rez them somewhere, and re-take them into your inventory.

Good Luck!

Indeed, I think parcel return now always groups together everything into a single "coalesced item"--with a name matching some one of the objects (perhaps with a perverse preference for "Object";).

If all else fails and clearing cache doesn't work, there are more drastic steps for cleaning out SL's faulty memory and starting afresh, but the details differ among the platforms.

As others pointed out, coalescing would be the first thing to look for. Everyone could have come back as one single item that needs to be rezzed, and can have any name, even something you wouldn't think is worth keeping so *always* rez anything that turns up into your Lost & Found.

Sometimes returning items can be delayed by a few days, so even if nothing shows up in Lost & Found, it's possible that things might still turn up.

In general it's better to not ever rely on parcel return to get your things back, coalescing makes it a real pain, and if the grid or sim happens to be acting up at the time of the return, it's likely things will be delayed or won't ever show up.

I’m stumped!
06-29-2007 07:04
Good Morning:

I have tried the suggestions here to no avail… I am still unable to locate these items.

I did receive a notification when they were originally returned (I was offline at the time and accepted when I next logged in if that matters):

“The object 'Second Life' has sent you a message from Second Life:
Your 39 objects have been returned to your inventory lost and found folder…due to parcel owner return...”

Then three more messages stating the same for:

“Your 40 objects...”
“Your 31 objects...”
“Your 30 objects...”

Yet in my “inventory lost and found folder” I do not find these 140 objects... What could I possibly be doing incorrectly? Any other suggestions? I’m stumped!

Thank you in advance!

Join the club, same has been hapening to me over the past few weeks, and judging by the many posts on the forums, we are not alone. Its a SL black hole that LL can't or won't do anything about.

I had the same thing. Items returned and I couldn't find them, exept two items. Turned out everything was coalised into those 2 items.

I had this happen to me a while back, and I thought all was lost so I went out and purchased everything again. Imagine my surprise after two months I opened up Second Life to find all my lost inventory.

I logged in yesterday, went about checking all the parcels we own for 'foriegn' objects being dumped (even though we have set no permissions for objects to be rezzed, or brought in from outside the sim/group, we still get crap dropped somehow), only to find a neat collection of speakers, screens, prims etc, floating about in the sky. I didn't detect them at first, because they were in my name on the Objects list in About Land, it was pruely whilst flying between parcels, that I 'ran into them' literally.

All these objects were deleted some 3 weeks ago.... I'm going to keep my inventory open for all the 100's of other things that SL has swallowed up over the past few weeks (wishful thinking).
