I have just uploaded a whole heap of textures only to find them arrive in .tex format. Can anyone shed some light on how I can convert these files?

Wait... what?

All textures uploaded to SL are SL textures. It's as simple as that. If there's a ".tex" at the end of the name, that means nothing. (Although the only reason there WOULD be a .tex is if it was that way on your computer as well.)

What format are they in on your computer? Sounds like a Paint Shop Pro texture -- they need to be jpg or tga to upload to SL.

Sorry for the confusion, I posted that too late and misled everyone as a result of tiredness (thats my excuse) :). I DOWNLOADED them from a website and theyre sitting on my PC as .tex files. I have tried opening them with PSP and PS but no luck.

A quick google reveals that .tex files are usually documents of some time containing text, not graphics.

I'm not totally sure on this (maybe 60%), so to verify, try opening the file in Notepad to see what's inside. If any (or a lot) of it is readable English, it's not a texture. Texture files DO sometimes have identifying text within the file, so you might be able to identify its type that way too, if it is a texture.

Of course, if neither PS nor PSP will open them, there's a good chance they're not textures anywho.

.tex is a DTP format used by TeX and LaTeX document processors.

You could probably examine your textures to see what format they really are... but they're almost certainly not that.

Apparently Wally can open TEX files, and there's a TEX to TGA converter here.

God, where did you get these files? Some obscure gaming site?
