Strange 1.8.1(6) anomaly..

I have two machines on my home network that I have SL installed on. Both were updated today to 1.8.1(6) with no problems. Now to the weirdness: On one machine, a Dell Dim4550 (P4/2.5g/1gb ram), when attempting to log on to SL, I get to the 'verifying protocol' and after a few seconds, the login times out, and a dialog warns about being unable to login. Now, I also have a laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200/CeleronD370/768mb ram) on 802.11b wireless which was updated at the same time, and I'm able to login to SL with no problems. Both of these machines are on different ports of a Linksys router connected to a cable modem. Since I have a network sniffer on another machine on the network, I monitored what was going on with the failed login attempt, and found that 'userserver.agni.lindenlab.com' was able to be pinged. I see the same network transactions when I successfully login from the laptop as I do when I get the failed login on the desktop. I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the client, with no change in the problem...

Anybody have any ideas??

Try the following if you haven't already:

Also, I recently had a failure to connect issue and clearing the cache fixed the problem, for whatever reason.

A link to info about your specific stopping point:

I have had this problem. I have two computers connected to a D-Link router, and on occasion, for no apparent reason, I get the 'verifying protocol' freeze on one of the computers. I have the ability to set rules for each computer, and I normally set the port forwarding on my main computer, because I can't set the same ports on both. I try swapping the ports around, and swapping them back again, and nothing seems to happen. This goes on for a while, and is usually fixed in the end by resetting my router to its factory defaults, or even swapping routers.

Why it happens I just don't know - there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind it. If ever you discover just what is happening when this problem occurs, I would love to hear it.

We run 2 pcs on same router, we have one set up using a specific port, -port 13000.

After an update we always have to update one of our desktop icons to run on the specific port again.
