Commit Charge increases until crash

I'm running on Windows XP sp2.
When I start SL and check PF Usage / Commit Charge
(ctl-alt-del -> Preformance Tab) it jumps from 220MB
to 400MB right away, and then continues to climb
each hour until finally it maxes out (virtual ram)
and crashes with some message about "heap stack".

Is this a known issue?
Is there a work-around?

thanks,
Gabrielle

Mine is around the same memory usage i'm guessing its all the data its needing to keep in memory like your inventory then there are textures and alike

As far as running out of virtual memory then it depends how you are managing it, i have windows automatically managing mine so it increases the page file as needed.

Open the windows control panel > click system > then the advanced tab > in the performance section click the advanced button > under virtual memory click change > Either enter a big enough custom size or click the "system managed size" radio button, click set, then ok, clicking apply and ok on your way out, you may need to restart windows for this to take effect

Well, doesn't this sound like a bug?

If my hard drive only has 500MB available, then when that
limit is reached SL still crashes. If my HD is 20gig, I will
be able to run for longer, but eventually if it continues to
grow every hour, then after enough time, SL will crash.

I've seen this continue to increase while I'm sitting in
a room for several hours not viewing anything "new".

Why would SL need to continue to increase the amount
of virtual ram on to what seems to be infinity?

Perhaps some "old" info should be dumped at some point?

I guess it depends how much it goes upto, im on the preview grid with two machines and for the last few hours mines grown upto 400Mb xp pro, while my other pc which had to relog an hour ago is at 220 Mb xp home. I've never seen mine much above 400Mb even after many hours of usage.

I am experiencing the same issue with increasing resource consumption ending in a Stack Heap error on the 1.6.12(6) client. Never had it happen before.

I have 1 GB ram, so I have kicked the Windows Xp Pro Sp2 pagefile to the curb and have no plans on re-enabling it.

Well, my Page File usage commonly goes up to over 2 GIG
when I am online all day. I've increased the limit, but
that's not the point... If there is something wrong, some kind
of "leak".. then someone should know! :)

And there are ample tools for finding such leaks. However, the leak could be in non-LL code in which case they may be powerless to fix it (not saying likely, just possible).
