Hello I have been out of power for a week due to hurricane Wilma, I just recently got it back and updated the new version, but when I go to log on, I keep getting the message: "Unable to find the server domain name. This could be the result of a lost network connection or a server problem. Please try again in a few minutes... " Well I have tried sevral times, and I have reinstalled restarted my computer many times, I don't understand because I have an internet connection no question. Please if anyone knows what I should do, lemme know? Thanks!

Hey Camie!
I had this problem once, and it was something to do with my port numbers. Not quite sure how I fixed it, cos well, I didn't! The one I needed wasn't open or something! Not very helpful I know :/ Hope it works soon! _____________________

Hi Camie,
Sounds like your ISP's DNS Resolve Server is having issues. The good news is you dont necessarily have to use your ISP's DNS Servers. I'll take a punt that if you google for DNS servers you can probably find a couple of alternatives to try. |

Typical causes for this error:
1) Firewall/internet security/Norton/McAfee/ZoneAlarm software. 2) University or business connection that does not support UDP network connections. http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=TechVerifyingProtocol |

Ok, I am having no luck, my firewall is not blocking Second Life, and neither is my internet security. And this is my home computer, the one I have been playing second life on for the past year or so. This problem is quite random and only happned once my power came back on from the hurricane. I was told it might have somthing to do with my router, but I wasnt given any instructions on how to fix it. Please I looked at the Wiki and that didn't help either. I have been trying all I know, and nothing is getting it to work. Please help!!!

Cant resolve DNS
11-12-2005 19:59
ive been getting this problem fequently and losing my connection to the internet all too often..i have tried numerous things...none of which are permanently fixing the problem..i have verizon dsl wireless with linkysy router..sometimes resetting the modem and router fix this..sometimes flushing the dns cache fix it temporarily(type ipconfig /HELP in commandline and flush and register dns).,,,but when my connection doesnt come back within a day or so....i reinstall win xp again..a pia but the final solution for most everything....
PS. Do you happen to have a Realtek RTL8139 ethernet card? it seems to be the cause of my problem and installation of Win XP SP2 update incompatibility...but i have yet to find a solution to this... |

Hi Camie - Are you using Windows? If so, try the following:
then send us a dump/copy/screen shot of the results. (type in exit to exit) here is mine as an example. |
