Pop-Eye Syndrome

I've noticed this happened a lot more lately and had some questions about it.
  1. What it is? although your avatar looks fine to you on on your computer, you appear to others to have your eyes popping out of your head. Picture of it here: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=89843&sort=PictureID+desc&Name=Torrid+Midnight
  2. When does it occur? Basically, pop-eye syndrome happens randomly, for no apparent reason, when you teleport to a new location.
  3. How to get rid of it? if you are lucky, someone will tell you your eyes are falling out of your head and you can Relog. Often nobody tells you, and you wonder around looking like the bad toon in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

So my questions:
  1. What causes it?
  2. Why is it happening more often recently?
  3. Is there some other way to prevent or stop it, other than relog?
  4. How do we bug report this if we don't know it's going on with our own avatar?
  5. What kind of bug is it that it causes other people to see you this way but not yourself, even though your relog fixes it? (my problem or their problem??)

Anyone know more?

I have only seen it on two people ever and you are one of them. I did not say anything as its SL , I have a hammer for an arm so i was not about to question your eyes? I had no idea that it was a bug. We can test it some in game see if we can figure it out.

I would suspect that it is realted to the fact that your shape data needs to stream down - when things are laggy, you may notice that when someone TPs in close to you their shape is the stock default avie shape, height etc.

it could be that the data for your eyes is getting lost or corrupted somehow.

This bit may seem like a strange question, but, have you ever actually set your eyes that big?

I got an answer of sorts on another forum from the lovely and talented Sable Sunset, who says:

From: Sable Sunset

I've seen this before and it seems to be caused by a partial 'Ruthing' - it can also manifest as oversized heads, or incedibly tall shapes that are still bunched up into the normal height of your AV, so you walk around with these amazingly long stick legs all bent up into the height you are normally. It seems to be caused by your shape not downloading correctly from the server to the sim you're in, but the information that's stored in cache about your AV locally is used by your machine, which is why you can't see it. Pure guesswork, but it's the closest reason I can come to for it

It's fixed by the relog because it forces the local sim to re-download your shape again, and hopefully it'll get it right that time, although I have seen it where for those people still in the sim that you were talking to before, you'll stay that way until they relog and redownload your shape to thier local cache.

I've bug reported it a couple of times, but it appears to be another wonderful feature of inter-server lag

Now that she mentions it, it got me to thinking how sometimes I'll see male avis looking shrunken with a huge head. Tiny shoulders, all hunched up, etc.

Lol, thanks. If you ever see me looking bug eyed again, please let me know. :) I assure you, I never intend for my avi to look popeyed. Maybe Olyve Oil-ish sometimes, but not popeyed:D
