First my specs, then the problem: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Opteron 180 (Dual Core) eVGA 7800 GT CO (1/2 SLI) eVGA 7800 GT CO (2/2 SLI) Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum Raptor 74GB SATA Liberty 620W PSU
Now my problem deals with having very low FPS at almost all times during gameplay. Of course FPS is opinion based when dealing with "low" and "high", but I am getting around 10 to 15 FPS during gameplay, sometimes less.
If I try and enable SLI using any of the rendering modes I get screeching and static sounds from my speakers that won't disappear until I log out. Single-GPU seems to be the only way to get it to run. Has anyone been able to get SLI to work out or know of a good FPS boosting tweak?

SL uses cpu more then vid card, you wont get a fps boost if you could do it anyway.
Maybe when next update with hardware light it will make a diffrence, now no :q

First, I can't actually know the specs of your computer by the names of the parts... unless im the father of all nerds.
and second, remember that second life is 100% downloaded data, all the prims textures and such, your computer has to download to display. ever wondered why SL client is only 10MB? thats only the code to read it.
so a big part of your FPS can come from connection problems, not graphical. hell, i run Half-Life 2 Lost Coast on the Best COnfigurations and i get around 60 FPS, on SL i get around 30 on the best configurations depending on the place.

I have a similar system: a8n-sli, athlon64 4000, dual BFI 7800GTs, x-fi fatal1ty, and although I don't seem to get the problems you're having, I do get the sounds you describe occasionally, usually during the busy shows at the Shelter (I remember telling whoever was doing it to shut up until I realised it was my problem!). Judging by my experience with my x-fi, and the impressive amount of complaints on the Creative forums, I'd imagine it's likely to be related to the soundcard instead, which can't cope when some heavy stuff like SLI is going on. You might find some suggestions on the Creative forums - a lot of games won't work properly unless I reduce the sound acceleration, and you might find changing that or updating your soundcard drivers will stop or reduce the problems.

I'm guessing you have local lighting on, turn it off its killing your CPU which SL uses more than your video card. You wont see much of a difference in SL if you go over a 6600GT, I have tried a 6600GT, 6800, 6800GT and now a 7800GTX, havent noticed any difference in FPS. Going to SLI wont make a huge difference I have an X-FI myself and havent had any issues with screeching sounds but did read that its caused by voltage differences on the PCI bus. There was talk that Creative was going to make a revision to the X-FI to fix that issue, not sure if they did or not,

Ok, keep in mind SL doesn't support SLI the last I checked and because of that there is no SLI profile. If you want to force it goto into your drivers, create a new profile, and enable SLI. While you're there enable Ansi-Filter & Ansi-Sample Optimizations if you're using Ansitropic Filtering. Turning on Performance Mode also helps a bit. Though if you're gonna be tweaking profiles I suggest downloading nHancer and using that. Also give the NGO Optimized drivers a try as that should help speed things up (it also comes with nHancer already).
