My computer is only about 7 months old. Since I downloaded SL on this computer I have off and on been having horrible system crashes (the blue screen of death) all as a result (what seems to be( running SL. The messages I get are related to the Video driver. Has anyone else had this problem. I am clueless to these technical matters, however it's worrying me because today I've had to shut off my computer twice due it freezing up or freezing in the process of booting up.

Now it will not even load Second Life, so I uninstalled it.

Any help with this matter before (knock on wood) it gets worst would be greatly appreciated.

While not the best card for SL, a 7300 should be OK. I used one on an HP pavilion (vista) for awhile, and it was just alittle slower than my 7600.

Since you mention drivers, you should try to see if yours is old and obsolete. One of the following should work.

1) Go to the computer vendor website, and see if they have a new driver for you.
2) If not, try the Microsoft web site.
3) You can also go to the nVidia web site and download the newest driver for your card.

Google a little first. You can save a system recovery point before you change the driver. If it all goes to hell, you can roll back to what you have now.

Good luck.

I downloaded a driver from the Nvidia website for my graphics card, under the impression it was an update, but the problem seemed to not be resolved so I downloaded another driver and now I have no clue what to do.

This was before I read your reply. I logged into sl three times today and it continues to do the same thing after a few minutes or sooner.

I wanted to add that do you think it has something to do with Windlight as well?

Found out you can't run XP64bit, so I am running XP32bit, with installed drivers as above it should work.

Okay were you saying that I cannot run the game on XP at 64 bits only 32 bit? Or were you saying something else? My computer is already running on 32 bit.

Often its not software or drivers but the hardware itself that, well, not that great. That's especially true for prebuild PCs. They might have all the latest CPUs and look great from the outside, but the manufacturers cut corners when it comes to the mainboards, ram and powersupplies - all the parts the consumers can't see right away.

A good test for example would be, to see how your PC behaves running PC stressing tests like 3dMark for example. then you could check if your RAM produces any errors using a program like "memtest" for example. Or it could be your powersupply, fluctuating in voltage or simply not providing enough power when components need it. It could be a lot of things...

I know this might not be the answer you wanted to hear.. It's not easy to check all those thing. But at least you might get a satisfactory result if you're finally able to pinpoint the real issue.

Good luck ^_^

P.S.:
64-bit operating systems can run 32-bit programs just fine. And so does my Vista x64 with SL.

When updating, did you first un-install the old driver via add-remove programs?
