i just started SL a few days ago and im having fun but my graphics and performance isnt what i was expecting
i have an ATI Radeon X800 XL, i've tried to adjust some settings but tonight i noticed that in the options menu under advanced graphics, the selction box for AGP Graphics Acceleration is not clickable
is this a problem with the ATI cards?
im confused, somebody please help ^^

Hello Nevaeh! A warm welcome to Second Life and the SL Forums... ah, for the reasons mentioned here, this post best belongs in Technical Issues, which is where I'll move it after answering for further discussion about your performance. No worries. Although it could--and should--be explained better, the reason why AGP Acceleration is grayed out is because of ATI incompatibilities with OpenGL, which SL uses to provide the graphics you see. One thread which educated me further on the topic if here, and you can also search for "AGP Acceleration" and find more. Please feel free to list more of your computer's specs and describe what isn't to your expectations, to see what else can be done.

Torley do you know if theres any plans to bring SecondLife to Direct3D to improve performance, or will we be stuck in 1998 for eternity just to suit those dodgy mac users who aren't old enough to own a pc

Most likely in the future, the performance "load" will be more balanced across a good CPU and GPU. Right now, there's not enough eye candy that takes advantage of a quality graphics card--Ripple Water is a start and a future lighting model is planned too. Will release some of the strain, and make for a better overall experience.

SL might be OpenGL , but it seems nearly all the work is put on your cpu instead of using gpu for something :> It barly scratches what a modern vid card can use Trees of pangaea anyone?
