Saw the fox news footage and decided to check it out. Big mistake!!!! Any potential customers who came because of FOX NEWS are sure to be very dissapointed. 2.5 mgz 512 ram intel extreme graphics (most recent drivers) cable connection
Sim will not move and when it does its very sporadic and the reaction time to my contol input is 6-20 sec's.
Only about 1/2 textures show, and thats at best.
Constantly falling thru floors.
1-2 minute freeze's, complete lock ups.
And worst yet, i can never log out. Have to use the task manager to even get out of the locked up game.
i have sent a have dozen crash reports.... Glad im not a paying member yet!!!! Any tips would be appreciated. RP

The problem with the fox news coverage was that it was smack dab in the middle of a sl upgrade. From my understanding (being new myself) is that it takes time after a major upgrade for things to settle down and for things to get better. I know a lot of people here worried about new people joining after seeing the news coverage and being disappointed. All I can tell you is that is *has* gotten better since the upgrade, day by day. Also make sure you meet all system requirments, especially your graphics card. I am sure some *oldies* will be here that may be able to offer up some other suggestions. All I can say is that I have really enjoyed my sl time thus far. Stick around and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

RP Part of the problem might be that you are trying to run the game on a graphics card that isn't listed as one in the system requirements. Click here for requirementsSo not all the potential customers will be disapointed, just the ones who didn't read the system requirements. Sun (I know that's sounding grouchier than I mean it to, but what can ya do)

Well, it's not always because someone has a graphics card that doesn't meet the requirements. I signed up a week before the update and I do have the graphics card that meets system requirments and after the update, it's still not performing the way it was before the update. Better than right after the update but not close to before.

ati graphics
10-29-2005 10:21
im running an ati graphics card with intel extreme video drivers(btw anyone who designs a platform that doesnt work with EVERYTHING intel makes, is barking up the wrong tree!!!)......so i am in within the required specs. And to make matters worse, this is the only program i have encountered that i get any kind of problems. I hope its like most seem to be saying, that the upgrade has messed the site up until it gets all the bugs out. I sure hope thats the case. In the brief 5-10 minutes of play i get, it seems pretty cool. thanks for the input RP

The Intel graphics chip isn't supported, which might be the problem you're encountering. A call to support at 800/860-6990 on Monday will help you figure out if there are any adjustments you can make to improve things.
Also, Lacey is right - the Fox story ran during a week when we were doing a huge and very complex release. Unfortunately a lot of new residents started right as we were working on smoothing out the inevitable bumps. Please rest assured, it's not always like this!
