Here is a link to the support section on the website. You can check out Hardware Issues and Drivers http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Technical+Support+FAQ _____________________

Seconded,
Intel extreme's are not supported (I learned the hard way at work), I'd suggest looking around for a cheap nvidia to replace. _____________________

Intel Extreme's suck, and are not supported, but many will work (with the right drivers). Do NOT use Windows Update to get the latest; this has broken it working for some people in the past.
I'm on an ancient laptop right now as mine is being repaired with a SCREAMING Intel Extreme 16 meg integrated video. I can get on SL with all settings at absolute minimum, and draw distance of 32 meters, with a whopping client 1 fps or so. Its still handy for IMing and getting a quick fix, though. ![]() Getting a cheap nVidia card is highly recommend, however. Good luck! -Flip _____________________

You're right about these bloody Intel graphics cards - I'm on SL through our second PC which appears to have one installed. I got a warning message when I first loaded the programme, but proceeded anyway: SL worked, slowly, for about five minutes before inexplicably crashing.

I got a warning message before inexplicably crashing. The crashing is explained by the initial warning that it isnt supported. _____________________

#@%*! Intel Extreme *#@$^%!

My Intel Extreme was working just fine for about two months. After the update of SL I can't even stay on long enough to rez my hair! This is a BRAND NEW FLippin Dell!!!!! Not that i am bitter.
I tried to go to the driver page suggested by the logon page, but it just gives me a blank IE page that says "Done" at the bottom. So far that hasn't helped. I went to Intel site and down loaded Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile v. 6.14.10.3943. This didn't help either. Bought me a new ATI Radon 9600 SE! Where is that darned UPS guy??? Why do they make me wait??? Have they no mercy??? Anyways...wish me luck! See you soon! ![]() picola |

I believe SL runs better under the 6.13 generation of drivers. Shoot an instant message to Chosen Few, he had the same problem with the 6.14 release. A rollback should help with this issue, but he's the expert. Chosen, are ya lurking?

I do hope this gets sorted one day - so many new computers are being shipped with these blasted Intel cards, including mine! Without Intel support, SL is closing itself off to so many potential (and current) users.

If users would actually A) Build their own damn machines like they're supposed to or B) Buy a DECENT machine, rather than one with crap inside of it, then more users could play SL. _____________________

I agree with Mole up to the part about unwashed yeti's, as i think thats an insult to all yeti.
As to building your own computer, you don't have to if you get the top of the line dell (which is about par with a mid-level do-it-your-self). _____________________

I'm on using an intel card built into a laptop (my nVidia desktop is in a non-broadband location and I'm not willing to buy another computer just yet -- sorry Mole)... obviously the card isn't supported by LL/SL, but I function OK with 6.14.10.3553 driver. Make sure ground textures are set to none and minimize all the other features.
Apparently Microsuck had a sleeper intel graphics card update in a recent OS update... so be careful what and how you update... Not ideal, but at least i can get on right now until I justify the cost of doing something about my system. |

Most users on lap tops don't have much choice with the video sub-system that's in their Dell laptops. Friend of mine is very disappointed with his laptop because it has "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" simply because they wouldn't give him a credit more than $1500 for his laptop at Dell. It's not a matter of people being ignorant, some people DO NOT HAVE THE CHOICE. So stop being such a snob.

It's not that Linden Lab doesn't want to support Intel Extreme graphics, it's that Intel Extreme cannot work with SecondLife, or many other games. There are about five different flavors of Intel Extreme, and four of them have no hardware support for 3D. Without hardware support, you're stuck with either a framerate measured in frames per minute, or graphics that wouldn't look out of place in Wolfenstein 3D.

If users would actually A) Build their own damn machines like they're supposed to or B) Buy a DECENT machine, rather than one with crap inside of it, then more users could play SL. Why is it that so many users in the forum get dogged by people they don't even know? Thanks for your reply HugsAlot Valkerie! When I ordered my DELL computer I specifically asked them for a graphics card that would be compatable with SL and even sent them a copy of the requirements on the SL page. I was told that there were no other graphics cards for the laptop that I had bought. They told me this "after" they sent me the DELL laptop and I emailed them a complaint about the "wrong" graphics card being installed. Otherwise I love my DELL. It's great for work and for traveling, I just can't play SL on the road! No worries, I think I will survive. Mole, since you're so smart, will you build me a laptop? I do build my own desktop computers, but I won't even try to build a laptop and think that I could fit all that in the little case. I would have to bow to your "superior" knowledge in that area, but to say that users have no clue? You don't know me . . . you don't know what I know . . . you don't know if I am a rocket scientist, an attorney, or a burger flipper at McDonalds. RUDE!!! Geeze people . . . don't come on the forums to attack other users. The forums are for questions from newer users to more seasoned users who "want" to help. If you just want to insult people to make your little world a happier place for you, try AOL chatrooms. If you don't want to help others, don't read the forums and don't ridicule people for asking questions, especially when you don't know them or anything about them. Damn man, not everyone is the computer guru you believe you are. She said she sent the requirements to dell and they sent her this machine. So it was Dell's incompetency that caused this problem. Many people have had hit or miss success with hardware that is supposedly supported .. especially from ATI working correctly with SL. |

How do I get second life to work with my intel extreme 2 graphics card? I have a laptop so it's not possible for me to upgrade to any other video card.

Try installing some different drivers. You might get lucky and be able to run SL. I wouldn't count on it though. How long does SL stay running before it crashes? _____________________

It crashes after 3-5 seconds. If I don't move I might be able to type a few lines of text before it crashes.

I have the exact same problem as the above poster- if someone could post a link to the drivers that might work with SL, it would be greatly appreaciated.
thanks! penguin |

The only drivers I've seen work were the original ones that XP comes with. But as of October, Windows silently updates this to a new version that's incompatible.
If you want to run Second Life safely, please purchase and install an nVidia GeForce 2 (or higher) or ATI Radeon 8500 (or higher) graphics card. Intel graphics currently don't work, and aren't supported. |

Wait until Wednesday. You should be able to run SL on your Intel video chipsets then.
