Dear Friends (and SL Staff),

I have came across this problem ever since i installed the game possibly you can tell me what the problem is. Everytime i am on the SL my computer freezes and locks up and i need to restart my system then it sends a ticket to Linden Labs via transmission. (that woudl you like to send the crash/lock report etc).

My System Details

Processor
Celeron 2.0 GIG

Memory
756MB DDR

Video Card
Radeon 9600 XT 256MB DDR AGP Card so i think the video is compliant

Audio
Avance AC'97 VIA - Built in Sound (chipset)

OS System : windows XP

Drive Space - 200 Gigs Main Drive, 160 Gigs Secondary , 150 gigs 3rd Drive, 200 Gig External

I think i am pretty compliant and run Windows XP. Or is their something i should know to fix the problem i am currently having or is it a server (database) error from the network?

Respectfully

Hmm.. What motherboard do you have?
I have an ASRock 939DUAL-VSTA. My computer would reboot after playing SL with a Radeon 9800 XT, until.. Well, I did two things at once.. I upgraded my power supply, and I set it to AGP 4X rather than 8X in the bios.

I rarely have some polygon problems if I had AGP enabled in SL, perhaps you could try disabling that? I realize it lowers the framerate. (My trouble with that may have been caused by inadequate cooling, however.)

I realize I am probably on the wrong track here, but some of it may be worth a try.

Thank you so much for this tip, Ashrilyn! I had been trying to stabilize my PC since Christmas, doing all kinds of things, like installing various versions of drivers and DirectX, adding a fan to my passively cooled video card, trying various versions of SL itself - and a dozen more changes. Yet, I kept experiencing the crashes described by quite a number of people here on this forum (ie SL freezing, screen sometimes going blank, audio getting caught in a weird loop, only way to resolve is hard reset).

Yesterday I disabled "AGP 8x" in the BIOS of my mainboard and played all day (7+ hours) without a single crash. There were even a few situations when SL *seemed* to be crashing, e. g. locking up for a couple of seconds, audio stuttering a little, but the client always returned to stability and did not crash.

It's still too early to say if I was just lucky, but it really seems like this change remedied my crashing problem. So all of you who have an AGP video card and are experiencing crashes - try this!
