Just to let anyone else know who may have the same problem with continually having to download the viewer.

Just downloaded 1.7.2 update and installed it as usual when the client detects a new version release. When using the desktop icon to launch the program it would tell me at login I needed a new version. But it was the same version, over and over.

The desktop icon (which re-appeared as usual) for some strange reason is actually to the PREVIEW version of Second Life, which I had installed a while back. So using any other shortcut, or going directly to the program directory works fine.
