This has been going on for about a week and I hoped maintenance fixed this. Seems everyday some people are being disconnected from the grid and some aren't. It does seem to matter which sim you are in but not everybody in that sim are dropped.
Today I was disconnected from a sim my friends were in and couldn't even get back to the login server. Other friends had the same problem and others didn't, and we were ALL in the same sim.
I figure it might be some sort of network routing issue, where they are getting to the same SIM through a different route then me.
Is this a known problem? Is LL manually moving routes? Is this going to continue?
NOTE: If I connect to my work VPN I can connect to the login server, when disconnected from the VPN I couldn't.

Grid's dropping some people and not others
02-28-2007 18:14
Linda...
I have been experiencing the same thing. I have been dropped several times from different sims while others remained. This has happened to friends as well while I remained in the sim.
As you said, after being dropped I was not always able to log back in for some time. Once logged back in, I found that others were still there and never dropped.
I was hoping this was fixed with maintenance but it has happened since then. This has been going on for at least a week. SL please help!! It's getting very frustrating.

Just a thought, but if the people getting dropped at certain times of high lag are non premium, non payment info on file people...this may be the reason http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/02/16/contingency-measures-to-ensure-service-as-second-life-grows/#more-777

Felowen ...
I believe the restricted log ins only affects those not logged in.
"Residents who are in Second Life when this occurs will only be affected if they log-out and want to return before the grid returns to normal status.'
This also occurs at different times of the day. Not only at peak time.

I think a lot of these kinds of issues are due to the colo in Texas. LL is using a VPN for its connectivity to the colo, a VPN is a good backup but is not the proper choice for mission critical connectivity. VPNs have higher overhead and less overall reliability than a dedicated connection of some sort.
